A call for aid/discussion:

I would like to host/play in a specialized game, but have NO experience actually setting up a game.

A few months ago, a role-playing game with a "Star Trek" semi-persistent empire style setting was created.

I would like to play in a game like that.

Large map, lots of planets (compared to number of players), all the typical Trekky universe races, PQ system, stealth, maybe sphere and map features, maybe campaign compatible, zero ally win conditions (Diplomatic win).

My questions are:

Primarily- how to set up a game map that will support fairly decent sized empires, and larger than usual fleets without "over doing it". (mineral levels, # of planets, etc.)

Should I include sphere, map features, and campaign? (Each answered individually.)

And is anyone interested in playing?/Helping set up such a game? (Player input welcome!) I'd hate to set up a game that runs potential players away because of map features or campaign features etc...

Once I think I can pull it off, I'll host and post said game.

So: considering six playable races, somewhere around 50 planets each- 300-ish planets...what about a map size? (Is the width/height in light years?)

Think it would be more interesting with larger spaces between worlds- especially considering the stealth aspect?

Say:
300 planets
3 each @ <81 ly from HW
12 each @ <162 ly away
----

that would make six clusters with 16 planets (?), and the rest would be +155 ly (default) from the home worlds.. will this create additional smaller clusters of planets in a standard sized map- or lots of singles and binaries?

I think I would prefer six fairly dense clusters of planets, and lots of other clusters of 5-10 planets each- just not sure how to achieve that.

Planet count: 6/11 x 500 = 273 planets

Dimensions: 1477 x 1477 lyrs to achieve regular density.

2000 x 2000 = 4000000
4000000 x (6/11) = 2181818
sqr root of 2181818 = 1477

The "Home Cluster" = 16 idea is interesting.

Tried to test a map and am getting an error.

Tried: size (both) 1477 and 2000, neither works, planet count 300

Planets @ homeworld: 3 @ 81 ly < 162 ly
All other planets > 162 ly

2 star clusters, 3 debris disks, 1 nebula

I've fiddled with the numbers a bit trying to get it to work, still getting an error? (changed # clusters, debris disks, total planets etc.)

Nvm, getting it to work now, the mirrored effect is from the wrap-around (I think).

Once I tweak it to suit- I'll post the game in the interest tab.

Thank you everyone, couldn't have done it without assistance.

Once again an error- this time when trying to create the real thing.

Cannot implicitly convert type 'Newtonsoft.Json.Linq.JValue' to 'int'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) at CallSite.Target(Closure , CallSite , Object ) at PlanetsAPI.AccountActions2.createcustomgame(Account account, Object settings) in c:\dev\PlanetsAPI\v2\AccountActions.cs:line 2191

i dont see a big Problem there.

crystall

are allready 7 races. now lets make the 8th a faction of the first, for axample there is a 2nd Borg faction or a 2nd federation.
