A suggestion to help people understand their tenacity and...Write Reply
A suggestion to help people understand their tenacity and reduce the regularily questions and complaints:
* Add a column "tenacity" in the player history which shows which games are counting for your raw tenacity and sector rescue. As far as I understand it this column can have values of -10 (raw: drop/defeat), 0 (raw: survived), +2,5 (secor rescue), empty (not counting).

Maybe an explanation how sector rescue really works would also help. I'm still not sure if it
currently has a bug (see my feedback issue) or I'm just not getting it. What I know is that I'm not alone with this question.

You know, sometimes when you create something that is supposed to solve a minor issue, you create a beast of a system to compensate. Tenacity comes to mind. Don't get me started on production queue or double beams. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Other than that rant, the above suggestion sound like it would help people understand their ratings. Get at her Beefman.

I very much like your suggestion, Emork; good; common-sense approach. I also greatly approve of the Edit button.

Beefer is coming in handy, isn't he? :o)

Very good idea ... would avoid a lot of headaches and re-calculations and guessing on both sides of the "help desk" here in planets.nu pub ;-)

Yeah, Frostriese, that's exactly the point.

The question is how easy this is to implement. The new column takes just minutes but getting the data could be difficult depending on how it is stored at the moment. We'll see.

A far as I understand the -10 will be erased when this game fades out of your 10 games which count.

I'd like to point out that the penalty is -18 not -10.
And as far as I know applies currently to any game you resign , even replacement games. Did some testing 2 weeks or so ago.

Click on your history, on the left hand side your tenacity should be displayed.

Right now tenacity is totally screwed up. I don't know if the individual components are messed up or changed, but the computer cannot simply multiply 3 numbers. Look at the tenacity Leaderboard. To get the last number you multiply the first 3 numbers.

#1: 100% x 124.3% x 112.5% = 139.8% (Computer says 137.4%)

#2: 100% x 118.1% x 100.0% = 118.1% (Computer says 135.7%)

#3: 100% x 118.6% x 107.5% = 127.5% (Computer says 135.1%)

#4: 100% x 120.4% x 105.0% = 126.4% (Computer says 134.1%)

#5: 100% x 120.6% x 102.5% = 123.6% (Computer says 131.2%)

All top 100 are incorrectly calculated.

Good evidence, Mjs.
@Joshua: Would be nice to hear that the tenacity problems are under review.

Siggi's case is one of the extreme ones:

80.0% x 111.45% x 100.0% = 89.16% should be his tenacity.

Computer multiplies those 3 numbers and gets 56.76%.

From just casual viewing the computer is not actually calculating those numbers from the history/leadership pages. It is calculating the total somewhere else. In addition, the problem seems to creep in when a player is no longer in a game, any game. It could be because of dropping, dying, winning, whatever. If you were active in a game, but are no longer active in a game (you left or the game finished), the computer computes a new result that is too low.

There are 2 separate issues:

1. How is tenacity supposed to work (This all Joshua's choice)

2. However it is supposed to work, the computer is not calculating correctly. (This should be repeatable and consistent)

One might speculate that the Tenacity glitch is linked to the database problem that's causing the "phantom games". I'd guess that there's a missing or incorrect identifier, likely a secondary key, at fault.

Just another extreme one (use the Contact link weeks ago):

90 % * 117,08 * 100 --> tenacity .nu 42,97 ... math 100,53.

From my point of view ... even wining games has reduced my tenacity. May be the selection of games that matters for tenacity is broken.

Yep, I'm doing my turns and missing none, business as usual.

Thanks to daily grind my tenacity is getting lower day by day as I don't have the privilige to do turns instantly. Going at 99%, down 5% in two weeks.

And I must still say I don't like the whole idea of tenacity when most active players are stuck in 80-100% range.

Plus in all my games there still are droppers. Cannot really say if the problem has improved at all.

Here is a simple suggestion that is guaranteed to work most of the time. Stop allowing players to drop or resign. Without finding a replacement. So once your in a game and you need to quit for legitimate reasons then you post of the forum find a replacement and then you send them an "invite" to take your place in the game. If they accept you are instantly dropped and they instantly take your place. To insure that a shadow account does not take this action, simply require the replacement player to have a premium membership and have the rank of LT. This way once your in a game your locked in until it ends. Since players can only have 8 games then they can't drop to simply start playing a different game. Just a suggestion.

Real Life should ALWAYS come before a game.

Yes, there should be consequences for dropping. However, if a person is failing in his real life commitments, these virtual ones should be the first to go -- and permitting people to resign is the least we can do. More to the point, it permits a replacement player to join.

If the system were functioning properly, it would be a good system.

That is the beauty of Custom games. When you have a real life moderator, he can pause the game until a replacement is found.

We have only a few turns left in our PLS-70 game. We had 2 dropouts. We paused and found 2 replacements. The winner in this game won't be someone who inherited empty space. They will have won the old fashioned way - they will have EARNED it.

Start or join a custom game. The Die Hard games are famous for this high quality play.

A lot of interesting opinions on this thread. The fact of life is, there is no way to stop a player from dropping or resigning. Some players drop just cause, some due to real life situations, some cause they got whacked up in the game. This is not dissimilar to real life, some empires crumble after their main city or main army is destroyed.

Dropping players have not bothered me much (could be cause I like sphere melee games which are teaming with opponents), as the serious ones usually stay on.

If dropping players bothers someone so much, do as Mjs68508 suggests, play custom.
