About defense posts: our great emperor Mentar gave a very good statement about defense posts: they are quite useless in the begin. Defense posts are very expensive and in the beginning you need all the money you can have to ships and mines. It is very unlikely that an enemy will attack with a HYP ship and if they attack with a cloaker, they will destroy your planet anyway. Only reason for defense posts is to hide from sensor sweep, and for that the radius is 200 ly so they need to be very close anyway. So after that statement I decided not to build defense posts in the beginning and it has been a very good decision, really brings more efficiency to the economy. Instead, for defense, I build those small cost-efficient defence ships that can be used also for scouting, laying small minefields and later in the game, sacrificial first attackers prior a carrier.

I would strongly advice you to favor Biocides over Annihilations. Yes it's true that you can build a cost-effective mark 4 Annie - I too use such ships to capture planets without starbases. But it will always lose to a capital warship carrier, may it be a Rush, Gorbie, Crystal Thunder etc. Because carriers win those battles. Yes, it is very expensive to load it with fighters, but the tricks are:
1. with assimilation you will quickly get multiple planets with 2500 MC each turn,
2. with chunnel you get that money home fast,
3. with chunnel you can move those Biocides from one front to another in just 1 turn. So as long as you are not being attacked from multiple sides simultaneously, you get much better results with just a few Biocides than a lot more Annies.

Also, when you fight with Biocides, use a sacrificial ship fighting first, maybe a Firecloud. Especially against starbases. Also, against just a starbase, two B41s work well prior a Biocide. So that the Biocide is not destroyed.
