Chunneling question: If a ship tows a FC arriving with no...Write Reply
Chunneling question:

If a ship tows a FC arriving with no fuel at destination, it loses its mission on arrival, and thus the FC is no longer towed.

Can this FC be used as a chunneling target the same turn? Does it work?

@ALEJOP

I found this in the doc's.

"If any starship locks a tow-beam on either of the Chunnel endpoint starships, the Chunnel will not be created. The warp speed and waypoint setting of the starship locking the tow-beam do not matter."

So, it looks like a NO.

Good question though!

You used to be able to tow a firecloud and run out of fuel -- and then chunnel to it. Could do things like tow a firecloud into a big webmine -- sacrificing a hit on the tug to drop in a large minesweeping fleet.

But this tactic is no longer valid at planets.nu.

Last time I checked Fireclouds are valid targets for Chunnel after they hit a Webmine.

I believe they can chunnel in a web field, but must have the required 50kt of fuel. I know they can chunnel into a normal mine field. Nice way to get a lot of sweepers to help clear it! :)

They can be damaged, at a lower crew number, almost anything, and still chunnel.

With the Firecloud rules (warp zero and no tow lock), you shouldn't be allowed to move and then chunnel. In other hosts (not here), you could tow-drop a firecloud anywhere, if the tug ran out of fuel. You could tow-drop a firecloud into an enemy fleet and chunnel the warp0 and cloaked parts of it away -- or you could chunnel your whole fleet without the firecloud having to arrive there the previous turn. planets.nu sets a tow-lock flag on the firecloud for the turn -- disabling the tow-drop tactic.

The only move-and-chunnel trick left is to slam a low ID firecloud into a web (with at least 1 fuel leftover to receive).

@Rexe: Host 3.22.027 also plugged the Tow-Drop Chunnel trick.

Also, ANY Firecloud can perform a crash chunnel, as long as they have fuel leftover to receive chunnels. Post-X.027 Hosts plugged this trick.

'NuHost brought it back.'

Tim spent a lot of his coding time to disable that cheat.

A all-time-openly-visible Handrail about all the differences for returning players would clear many things out.

Intentional or not, this difference remained "unsolved".

Either way, we have a document that displays a ton of differences, tailored to players who have played VGA Planets 3 in the past, but are new to NuHost.

'Reference: https://help.planets.nu/VGAP-3-differences'

Is this document available and/or highlighted in the 'How to Play' section ?

Yes. I currently cannot link it as on phone but index differences etc. And it mentions web mine Chunnel.

Ah... okay, if you know where it is then one can find it. If you are new to this site you wont ever notice or stumble over it.

Well one question (maybe only for me) remains:

Why is such an important document that describes the differences between this game here and vgaplanets, hidden below in such a deep cellar ?
[well one can question the term 'hidden' but my opinion is that it *is* hidden if it is not on the FIRST side of the helping page and only available after scrolling down a long road in 'Index'

Its in the frequently asked questions:

http://play.planets.nu/#/howtoplay/FAQ

So is not "hidden".

Thxs, people! :)

BTW, the "Starships —> Missions —> Warp Chunnel" entry in he index does not state that the chunnel initiator must also (usually) have a speed of warp-0. The PI takes care of it, but I guess it should be explained in the docs also.

> its covered by the UI resetting and setting a dotted line. Which I think cancels the dotted line if you set a warp greater than zero.

That's correct.

Someone should look at that page to see if it can be added without breaking the flow.
