Does anyone know how many fighters an imperial topaz can take out when it's up against a starbase ?

I see Emork stated 30 once, but it seemed he was just repeating something Tom M said, which was technically a vague claim of around 30 or so.

Tom M did state vs a Madonnzila they took out 26 fighters.

I see you haven't purchased the upgrade for this ship yet... do you want me to run a test for you?

From personal experience the 5 beam Imperial Topaz does take out 30 fighters against a base.

Against a carrier that is moving toward the gunboat, it takes out fewer. 26 sounds correct.

Is it worth it to get the 5-beam gunboat ships (I'm asking about Ru30/Ru25 as well) over the 4-beam ones? What makes the extra beam worth the extra fleet points?

Just my opinion:

1) better trade bait

2) +10 fighters killed before you attack the base with your battleship or carrier - that could make the difference between wining and losing (would need to run the sims)

3) against torpedo ships, that is one more "fighter" the battleship has to kill and potentially a lot more torpedoes it has to waste

4) with decent beams (blasters, heavy blasters) it can actually fight pretty well against other light ships due to their high torpedo evasion

I assume that is 5 runs at the Starbase, each round with one less fighter?

Hmmmm... so Fascists with 2X Faster Beams advantage... and Gunboats... hmmm, never even thought of that till now.
