Buy a really old computer with a floppy drive or I suppose figure out how to install one on your current computer. Call up Tim Wisseman and ask if you can purchase a floppy drive with version 2.0 on it. (I used to think the game was called "Planets 2.0!" Push in the floppy and I think you had to then run each of the programs on the floppy drive one at a time. I think you need to run a set up program first (I can still see Riker's face as the Feds and maybe a bald guy for another race?), I forget what that was called. Then you can had to run a host program. I think that created rst files...maybe? It's not so clear. Then I think you ran an unpack program and then the planets program, which took you into the game. Make sure your keyboard works so you can move through the planets, ships, and starbases with different keys. You'll probably need to get used to them again. When you've done all your actions, I think you then run a pack-up file (not sure of its name). This created a...trn file? Then you run the host program again. Go watch TV or go outside and play for 5 or 10 minutes, depending on how fast your computer is. Unpack your new rst file and repeat. Don't get too invested, because the AI cheats and you will have a difficult time defeating it. Invite a friend over and for each turn wait 20-60 minutes for him to do his actions. Yeah, I think that's about it.
Oh, and don't forget to play your favourite songs in the background while you work on your turn. I recommend the Cranberries, "ZomOMbie ZomOMbie." |
