If I steal or buy a Harrier Jet, it will still be able to take off and land vertically. If I steal oe buy night vision goggles they will see in the dark regardless of who owns them. Mechanical things do not change with transfer of ownership in the real world, why should they here?
The laying of webs in another races ID is not in my opinion a good tactic since the web no longer drains 25 kt of fuel each turn in that situation. The laying of webs for an ally is a valid tactic but in my opinion should only be done in the Crystals name and free passage or the f code given to your ally.
There is a skill to web laying and it is the only edge that the Crystals have. To change the criteria would vastly decrease their chances of staying in a game long enough to do well.
