Homeworld isn't special in that regard.

Some Sectors have a minimum amount of planets you have to hold or be marked dead.

The rest don't, and you never really die.

@Cuper: In your case, only the Rator and New Boston Sectors do you need to hold onto a minimum of planets to stay alive. They have a increasing 'Fight or Fail' planet limit which is updated each Turn, and displayed on the Sectors info panel at the top.

There used to a be scenario where if you captured a homeworld the race would die. I'd really like to see that as a Design function for creating custom games!

There in the 90s used to be a scenario where players would get N-1 points where N is the number of original homeworlds they controlled each turn, and the first player to reach X points (usually around 100-200) would win. :)

Those were Invasion and Multi-Invasion (where you have 5 point-generating planets).

That makes you concentrate on a very small group of planets and gives really huge advantage to carrier races. I like the game in its present form much more )))
