Is there a good thread out there on how to effectively use the Iron Lady Class Command ship? Trying to decide if I want to use it in an upcoming campaign game. Thanks in advance for any pointers or showing me a good previous discussion on this.

I don't recall any, nor could I find any.

Mainly people just ask about how it works. Requires fuel, so like a Loki remove the fuel if you want to turn it off. Only affects your own ships, excluding those using the Intercept mission (and at this time I assume Birdmen 'Cloak & Intercept'.

I've used them in conjunction with Sapphires to HYPjump and lay a Web at the end destination to totally catch people by surprise.

They are incredibly powerful for their ability to move before Minefields/Webs/Protofields change... as well as avoiding Tows and Towing at will (unless they break-Tow-lock).

Check out this thread, toward the end. @Mentar had some good use cases

I personally used them in a recent campaign game, but I was killed off a bit early to determine late game usefulness. My thinking was it could help the Rebels deal with an aggressive Privateer neighbor.

I've used them quite a bit. If loaded with torps, and sitting hidden on a planet, they can move 81 ly and lay a large minefield right in front of a charging enemy fleet. It's a nasty surprise that they can't sweep (but CAN get hit) until the following turn.

If equipped with Heavy Phasers they can clear mines ahead of your advancing fleet.

Since all ships in the same location get the "move first" advantage, they can assist versus towing tactics also.

In my opinion this is one of the most useful and interesting Campaign ships Planets.Nu has created.

Thanks, all. I hadn't fully considered the minefield techniques/implications. I especially like the Sapphire - Command ship combo! The towing tactics are pretty handy as well, but I'm most looking forward to the minefield shenanigans - with the distance of it amplified by teaming up with the Privateers. :)

But wait, there is more!

Not only in addition to moving before Minefields change (minesweep, minescoop, minelay, Selenite Push/Pull)... but you move before Ion Storms do!

EE Gorbies can save fuel with Fighter Transfer and Command ships... empty Gorbie Command moves, then Fighter Transfer takes place. Haven't actually tested this... just something I brainstormed.

Downsides... Command Ships move BEFORE Starbase Fix mission. Same for (but less annoying) Clone and Super Refit.

Also be careful with Force Surrender, as it normally is before Movement which itself results in frequent accidental ship transfers between allies. With it after Command Movement you can expect more accidents, and also higher risk of enemy Starbase Force Surrendering due to common Friendly Codes. Specifically HYPjumping Command Movement is a bit risky to enemy Starbases.
