It is now clear to me that the direction of NU site scoring...Write Reply
It is now clear to me that the direction of NU site scoring is away from incremental 1st through last ending positions, which would have been my preference. I also hoped we might get some kind of ladder system based solely on that, even if it was off-site. But, I don't see that happening either. So, I will now be voting with my feet. And, to be honest, I really need to pay much more attention to real life than I have been doing lately.

I have two games going which I would much rather find replacements for, rather than just dropping. Please contact me if you have interest in either of them.

http://planets.nu/#/sector/144553 - PLS game Pirates with lots of potential fun ahead.

http://planets.nu/#/sector/158674 - Nuiverse team game. *replacement must meet with the approval of my USA teammates.

Sorry to see you go Mule. You're an extraordinarily tenacious opponent, and a lot of fun to play with.

Even though my playing style is probably adverse to the playing style you prefer I have more often than not found that I share your point of view on many issues.

Hope to see you back someday.

RL comes first, mate. Good luck, remember us, and come back if you can -- even if only to visit.

Mule you can always go with not paying to play and support a game that does not work in ways that you would like to see it go.

Myself I would like everyone to just pick the Campaign options they want for each game,

and not "HAVE TO GRIND for them like in MMO's".

Then I could just play in the games I would like. and not have to farm resources for all 11 races so I can then play in games as I would like 2.

It is why I decide to stop paying for Premium last year. Lucky VGA Planets is still fun as an non-Register player. Though is harder to do with some Races.

I agree that having to spend years earning campaign resources makes no sense. However I stay and play in one game at a time and just enjoy it because it reminds me of my youth. At the age of 53 any thing that reminds me of my youth is worth $30 a year.

hey Mule, remember me? :) I'd have to go back in my match history, but your name rings some clear bells from somewhere.

Point is, if you need to step away for RL stuff, more power to ya. The sign of a good gamer is knowing when you need to step back, and not after the police come over to visit or something. Hopefully I'll still be around myself when the itch strikes you again.

Til then, good luck, and always remember to sweep for life's minefields.

Thanks for all the good wishes. The crew here is top notch. Maybe once I get RL worked out I'll sneak back under an alias so I can just ignore my issues with scoring. :)

Anyone?

I've only played as the colonists once, but since my games have finally dwindled down, I'd be up for taking over if you can't find an experianced colonial officer.

Stargazer out.

Mule, the new system may not be exactly the metagame scoring system you want but it should fit you better than the existing one. The new system doesn't allow the purely cumulative approach anymore but includes qualitiy requirements for being promoted. So why quit because of this change?

I can understand if players quit whose past efforts are nullified to a big extent by the pending demotions but as the current system had no value for you I assume you're not among them. Is the metagame system really preventing in-game fun for you?

Anyway, it's nice that you care for replacements. Good luck!

@Mule

Your end position is never really important in Planets. Only how you generate fun inside of it is the point.

Anyway, a break is nothing what last for ever! :)

@Capt+Chaos,

Yahoo has been known to shut down email sources that send "too much" to their users. It would not surprise me if Planets.nu is mistakenly on their "block" list. It you want reliable delivery of messages from Planets.nu (and other email sources), I would strongly suggest that you move away from Yahoo.

Good luck Mule. I had to step away from Planets as RL got very busy for me also. I still keep in touch, reading the activity feed now and then and hope you do the same. Hope we find time in the future to join a game or two. Take care!

"It is now clear to me that the direction of NU site scoring is away from incremental 1st through last ending positions"

"Mule should have just waited a bit longer... he missed the Leaderboard shakeup."

Mule's characterization of the scoring changes seems accurate. The new awards require winning, and don't give any partial credit for 4th place. Achievement for destruction and capturing was another way that players could advance without winning before, and that has also been taken away. Players who don't win can still get credit for planets at the end of the game, but that tends to be very small when the winners have over 40% of the planets.

Note: Mule is not defending the old system. His position is that consistently placing in the top 3 (with or without winning) is more praiseworthy than an even mix of 1st place and 9th place finishes. He is correct that the site's scoring system has moved further away from this preference.

"I also hoped we might get some kind of ladder system based solely on that, even if it was off-site. But, I don't see that happening either."

I still expect to complete this project, but must admit that it is going slowly. Planets as a whole can only take so much of my time, and playing in my current game comes first.

@Eric: You are more than likely correct... but I gave him a hard time for having unrealistic expectations and emplored accepting that Joshua set down a road that becomes hard to abandon despite us both wanting a reboot to a ladder system.

When you agree with someone (he converted me to his view in 2014), but see the content creator steadfast... you side with the creator and work on forming a compromise... which never occurred because in part Mule wasn't open to compromise and drove the majority of discussion.

I didn't have a solution but I knew it required morphing the current system, possibly multiple times, to get what Mule and many of us ultimately would prefer.

Giving up kinda makes being stubborn and malcontent this entire time pointless, outside those minds he changed or those whos views were made vocal.

I think Mules opinion on the new system is now integral for those of us that want to continue the fight... because thus far the 'ladder please' crew has been silent.

I feel this is closer to what I want, but I still want the same thing I did before.

I'd love for Mule to return later, but adopt my attitude, and use his brain to come up with another corpromise to reach a more ladder-like system.

I think stating your negative expectations of a content creator is couterproductive... and being stubborn hurts your goals.

Plus I'm gonna miss being criticized for using 'I' too much, it was improving my writing knowing he'd say that.
