I"ve had back to back turns where ships that have been unloaded on previous turns subsequently have all their cargo back aboard on the next turn. This has resulted in ships unexpectedly running out of gas. In both incidence the time machine confirms that the ships were unloaded. Any ideas about what is going on?

A few possibilities...but my best guess would be that your ship was on a "Beam Up" mission.

Both times I had a LDSF being towed by a Meteor, The LDSFs were on EXPLORATION and the cargos that reappeared were either mixed minerals or colonists.

Were the 'reappearing' cargoes the same as the ones they got rid of?

Where were they dumping their cargo? Another ship? Foreign ship? Your planet? Unowned planet? Foreign planet?

If they had no fuel they would not have unloaded

The first time I unloaded minerals onto my planet. This is confirmed by the time machine as the freighter was empty.

The second time I unloaded 700 colonists onto my planet. The was also confirmed by the time machine.

I initially chalked the first instance as a random error on my part. When it happened a second time I rechecked and now I'm pretty sure there's a bug here somewhere... I remember seeing a thread where there were problems in a game with a pleasure planet and I'm wondering if this is related?

If the planet was unoccupied (or controlled by enemy), your freighter has to have fuel to transfer anything to the planet. Without fuel the transfer will only success if the planet is already in your control.
