I've seen discussions that cloning after turn X would be used in PLS games, but clearly it wasn't in here. So a strong coalition (especially when Privateers/Crystals are included) could build a fleet from a very large spectrum of ships later in the game.
That said I think Robodoc makes a really good point. If a strong coalition is forged, the PLS rules make it relatively easy for everyone to have all the best ships the coalition can produce. It really makes diplomacy even a stronger factor than normally. Naturally it takes players who will enjoy 'their team' winning even though they themselves are not.
This makes me think should PLS type games have some kind of extra factor to discourage larger (more than 2 player or even more than 1 player) alliances or should one just accept it is bound to happen if joining such game. In any case Planets is pretty different game when you are not restricted on the ships your race can produce. |
