Maybe someone could tell us the best Lizard combination against a fully loaded Gorbie? I don't know that.
But I played as Classic Fascist against the Evil Empire in the Vehrnoch sector. I destroyed Gorbies there with Vics. Keys to do this are: - try to defeat the support ships first, the sacrificial ships (mainly Super Star Frigate) can cause you to lose one extra T-Rex. (like I believe you did a couple of times in our game) - evade the attacking Gorbies first, try to get the possible towing support ships to hit small minefields. Evil Empire is a bad race to counter mine if it hasn't traded for a better minelayer... - If you can't tow the support ships away or make them hit mines, you can cloak intercept the support ships so the surviving intercepting cloakers will fight last after their cloaked intercept combat thus you don't lose them. - especially in Classic you can force a Gorbie to attack starbase first. Then destroy the possibly damaged Gorbie. This is what I did in Vehrnoch: with a couple of LDSFs I built surprise starbases to barren planets, with enough clans and defences to damage Gorbies. If the Gorbie has a lot of fighters, it doesn't have much room for supplies to repair the ship. - tow single Gorbies for combat somewhere, preferably after they are damaged by a starbase. - Remember, after the shields are down, each shot of laser and each mark 1 torpedo does 1 percent of damage to a Gorbie. So you can have some very cost-efficient combat ships (I'd go at least with lasers and mark 4s, but this is also good use for ships meant to capture other ships - x-rays and gamma bombs do 1 percent damage with each shot) - but you need to get the shields down first with mark 8s (or 7s)
So I'd advise to mainly try to evade Gorbies, rob/web them or make them immobile. If the Gorbies take some planets from you, you can always take them back with cloakers. You can go past the Gorbie and take Evil Empire's planets. In our game I took the initiative because I wanted us to do combat in your area, so you couldn't do this. |
