@Purebloodprince: I appreciate your nuance about the context, a lot. We were enemies from the start, and this did not have anything to do with backstabbing.
Not in order to defend anything, but to explain the interesting communications that went on here, for others to reflect over:
Galadan knows I am telling the truth: My thoughts were the whole time "djeez, the Robot really seems to think we have an agreement, but we really don't, look, I wrote him this and that, how could he interpret this as an agreement? "OK, send the instrumentality to my planet while I think about your plan" does not mean "OK, I will defect from my alliance and join your alliance even though I think it is a trap". He must be really desperate."
I struggled with this for several turns, which made me write those annotations in my messages to Galadan, because PBP threatened to destroy my reputation publicly. Of course, if this war lasts until turn 600 as well, it will be a while before this can be read.
To make it into an analogy:
I felt like Captain Picard. Two scenarios:
1. You have a quarrel with the Romulans. But you want lasting peace. They send a Resolute as a gift. Do you use it against them? No, of course not.
2. You have an ongoing war with the Borg. They need to be destroyed to save the Federation which is the most important thing. So they send a cube as a gift with a proposal for peace. You expect it is a trap. Do you use the cube against them? Yes. At least that is what I think Picard would do, after a sleepless night.
Especially in a champions game. In a normal game I might have stuck with the 95% that just says, no thanks, please keep the cube... just to avoid issues. But I saw an opportunity to serve my alliance at the cost of my enemy, and it turned out that it was a good choice to make use of the opportunity.
Looking forward to the video. I think :-)
