Question about Wormholes. Playing in a game with WH's and am curious about them.

I know you come out of the other side uncloaked, and how to enter them, but suppose I wanted to make sure someone didn't pop over to my area uninvited?

Can web mines or regular mines be laid around, or over a WH? If so, would the mines be sucked in and show up on the other end?

Just wondering..

Thanks in advance for any help/information.

You need a ship mission to transit a worm hole.

There are no documented comments on worm holes sucking minefields through.

I have looked at one of my finished games and there was a short time a minefield covered a worm hole and no mines of the same id was seen at the other end. There has been no documentation on worm holes increasing the decay rate.

So I assume currently you can lay mines over a worm hole entrance / exit to defend movement to it and currently there is no evidence to indicate worm holes have any interaction with the minefields.

@MARTINR Thanks for that info. Not having experience with them, it seemed wise to find out more about how they work.

It interesting there is no documentation on them other than basic entry and exit info.

Again, thanks!

There is a lot of documentation of what happens when you pass through the worm hole.

But if Admin do not pass on additional information then it has to be found out by trial and error.

This could mean that worm holes do indeed have no effect on minefields.

Or no one has asked the question before after noticing the effects of having minefields over worm holes.

Currently on a simple knowledge of how the host usually interacts and the information from one game it is most likely be they do not interact with minefields.

Until someone who has more information pipes up so it can be documented.

Wormholes have no effect on minefields (normal or web).

@WHISPERER

Thanks for the info.

I'm in a 1v1 game as a Crystal for the first time, and since I know squat about them, except to stay away from web minefields, Something happened that I am not sure should have happened.

Enemy: Fascist Ill Wind. Ship was caught in a web I laid not far outside of his HW, last turn.

I was moving another ship into the area to engulf his HW and thus hopefully denying his freighters access to the HW for a few turns. (it's early in the game, turn 12)

I had read the reports that he was trapped in the minefield, and burning fuel. What kind of made me blink, was this turn (12) he somehow escaped the web field, and did an intercept on the ship I had moving into his area.

I didn't think a ship could get out of a web without sweeping, let alone intercept a ship he hasn't seen!

Just curious. Oh wait.. he probably did see the ship he intercepted, I had taken a planet more than 180ly from his HW on turn (10) and the minefield was laid by another ship, and was headed, as stated above.

OK, sound like an idiot, sorry for the ramble.

They certainly can. The closer to the edge of the minefield, the easier it is to get out. When a ship hits a web mine, it stops. Unless it runs out of fuel, it can move on the next turn. Each light-year travelled inside a web minefield has a 5% chance of hitting a web mine.

You can find additional information on minefields (normal and web) here:

@Lord+Krell

This might be helpful to you...

To get the odds for hitting a mine given a specific distance traveled, use the formula:
100*(1-(1-CHANCE)^DIST)
where DIST is the number light years traveled, and
where CHANCE is the percent chance per light year to hit a mine (0.005 cloaked, 0.01 uncloaked, 0.05 for webs)

For example, the odds for hitting a web mine is about 40% after travelling 10 ly or 64% after travelling 20 ly.

Mine and web fields decay and interact with enemy minefields and ships normally as if the WH was not there.

Mines are not sucked into the WH.

Ships arriving through the wormhole in a web are drained as normal ships flying into a web without getting hit.

Once they have arrived, they can sweep the fields as usual or move through the fields and could get hit as they normally would travelling through a field.
