Webdrain and cloak question. If a ship arrives cloaked to...Write Reply
Webdrain and cloak question.

If a ship arrives cloaked to a planet and it runs out of fuel, it stays cloaked until the next turn.

However, if a ship has fuel to cloak (but less than 25kt) when in a web, then it doesn't end up the turn cloaked. (Obviously no mine hit).

Silly question: shouldn't these behaviours be the same?

Possibly due to the fact that draining fuel by web mine is more aggressive then running exactly out of fuel. The web mines may drain the last dregs of power out of the cloaking device so rendering it useless after the web drain so making the ship visible.

It's two seperate things. In the first example you start your next turn with excactly enough fuel to activate the cloak. Therefore cloak is engaged and your fuel is drained.
In the second example you start your turn fuelless and therefore cannot cloak.

If you look at the host order it all makes sense :)

Interesting, so because the final fuel would be negative it forces a decloak. So perhaps with exactly 25kt...

Shame what a waste of fuel :-P

I's more easier. ALL ship missions get zeroed when web drain take place.

Ugh now that I read it over I may have had a blonde day myself.
I was misreading your question. So in essence if you had enough fuel at 7 - cloak you should stay cloaked for the remainder of the turn.
I was not aware that web drain changed that?

Well, you have this "cloaked" status so you can see if the ships is really cloaked or not.

I am enjoying a bird vs xtal fight and struggling with the above. Leaving ships on cloak with 1kt fuel (darkwings and resos), so that all fuel is gathered in minimum number of ships, but some of the ships decloak. So I have this feeling I am missing something >:-!

@ted so if fuel = 0 it is the same mission reset as if the ship had no fuel? but what about host order?

Web drain reset your ship mission when inside a web field and you have less than 25 fuel/field. If your ship mission get reseted you decloak.

Image if this would not happen. You could easy transfer 5kt fuel (cloak cost per 100kt) from a cloaked fuel holder and your cloaked fleet while it stay invisible. Would be a great tactic for pirates to wait inside a web :)

Ps: But what you could test something for me :) Need it 25 or 26 kt fuel (web drain) + cloak cost to stay cloaked? Just curios, because sometimes each kt count to make it.

Thanks Ted,

Well that was the tactic I was trying to play with the birds. Instead of spending 150kt of fuel per turn (6 x 25), use 54kt (4 x 1 + 2 x 25). That is one nasty learning. More Reso's needed.

Cloak is needed to avoid fascist DB19 intercept + trg/pop. If it was pure xtal then it would be simpler. Fascsit + Xtal is "interesting" as Bird enemies. It was easier with the Borg ;-P

I need to dive the time machine perhaps I have already tested the 25-26kt theory.

Best tactic, beside cloak/sweep here is you make it over a crystal planet to get the crystal web code.

But i agree, web is a nasty frustrating weapon if your opponent has enough money + big carrier access.

Imagine a game where you have in all homeareas fight against this + cloaker/carrier/glory and rob support and then also a big Borg have some problems :)

Oh stop helping him. He's got enough of a head start farming dropped races as it is. Just let us cap his ships.

Lol Maqusan, this is a public thread so I have to defend my reputation.

I am farming from what I have sown: two early strikes on both Feds from both teams on either side of our team.

It is unfortunate that the Feds dropped, leaving both teams crippled. It may look as fortunate for me, but that is short sighted, it is also unfortunate.

At the level of the game, the drops have denied access to the PBP needed to grow organically by fighting (and I am not going to teach Merlin Queue Control to a Mentee).

At the level of the player, it is also unfortunate. Because we didn't really have to work hard together militarily for a while, it was nearly all about expanding and optimising economy while building ahead of the queue. Which is... boring, when you have too much of it. It takes time to develop captured planets to be a useful part of the war machine.

Finally it is paying off. Finally some shooting is starting to happen and finally we are all having some fun and learn new things.

One of the good things I get out this game is that I get to finally try bird vs xtal, a scenario I haven't encountered yet and not to this scale (700ly war front). And this Xtal has access to fascist cloakers, popers, colonial sweeping and until recently an Emperor as mentor go someway to level the playing field vs bird commodore who managed to do two early strikes.

Perhaps we win, perhaps we loose, but we are going to have fun and learn ;)

Anyway, No offence taken.

@ted - oh one can guess the game you mean, Borg are my other favourite race ;) so go ted!

Back to Figak's original question: I don't buy Ted's explanation that a ship gets decloaked when its mission is reset. The mission is also reset when a ship is given away using "gsX" friendly code, but a cloaked ship will remain cloaked until the end of the turn (unless somehting else - Loki, ion storm, minehit, etc. - decloaks it). Thus, I fail to see why should the ship be decloaked when it runs out of fuel in the web drain phase.

Besides, the Crystals would still get the message that the ship has run out of fuel - so it is not like you could keep your big cloaked fleet totally unnoticed.
