What gives for minelaying? I had my mission set to lay mines, friendly code md3. I got the message that the mines were laid. The torpedoes are gone from my ship's inventory. But I cannot see the minefield. Do you have to minesweep to see your own minefield you just laid? Confused...

Below is pasted the message from my reports:

Group Message
Minelaying From: FSS Assassin ID#48
We have converted our torpedoes into deep space mines and laid them in a field centered at ( 1473, 1452 ).
1920 mines were laid
Mine field ID#16 now contains 1920 mine units and is 43 light years in radius.

Any insight or ideas? Is the minefield there but I just can't see it until I have a minesweep mission up within range? Is it bugged?

You need a ship within range minesweeping to see it on the map.

Ok. Seemed a bit ridiculous since it's my own minefield. Was a bit panicked there. Thanks.

I cannot remember having to sweep to see my own minefields, but then again most of my ships do have the minesweep mission on if they don't have anything better to do.

Some other alternatives is that some other player's minefield annihilated all the mines that you laid, someone swept all your mines after you laid them, or you laid the mines in a debris field or in/close to a star cluster, which also annihilates all mines.

Check your other messages to see if they have more info.

Freighters can also use the mine sweep mission.

They will detect minefields but having no beams will not get rid of any.

So ships that are moving in your own area can minesweep and detect minefield change.

Ah, kind of strange. The report was in "minesweeping", 3646 mine explosions detected. Guess I can't blow off minesweeping reports as being beam-weapon oriented only.

Thanks for the insight @Elmaco.

You don't need to sweep to see your own minefields. You can even see your own minefields in an ion storm, I believe, which normally prevents scanning for them.

Also, I believe that debris disk/star clusters reduce the size of the minefield until it no longer intersects, not obliterate them completely (unless you try to lay a minefield from within the debris disk itself).

@Martinr: Decius is correct... I thought the same thing not even a month ago myself!

But it turned out it was me laying Webs in another Races name that resulted in me thinking that in a Sector I had just taken over as a replacement.

___

To elaborate on Decius's post, Star Clusters trim minefields/Webs until they are 10ly away from the Star Cluster circular-perimeter (but you can lay them over the Radiation Halo no problem). Debri disks just trim to their actual circular-perimeter.

Destroy Planet has been used to clear out my Webs, loved it! War is fun, even when you are on the losing end!

This is one of those rare things that is so far out there....

Destroy Planet is a heck of a way to clear mines. Does it clear all in the blast area?

@Spunkmeyer: If a center-point is inside the Debri Disk, then it is 100% gone... all the rest are trimmed until their radius no longer overlaps the Debri Disk.
