I've been playing VGA Planets since the 90s though lost it for awhile when our Troll died and many had moved to 64 bit.  I've only played private games with friends on here so far.  I generally go for the Hulk Smash type races, Bots, Rebels, Lizards, etc...  I think I get bored if I can't be into something until late game though I respect the firepower of those races.
