@Mcnimble: I downloaded your JVPC not that long ago actually! Was looking to see how you made your Client, but didn't have the required software to actually check it out fully.

I found different sized and coloured circles was the best way to denote different ships:

@GLYN Not to be confused with JVC, which was another client.

Didn't know about Object Visualizer until the thread with the peanut-buttered cat showed up today (had missed it earlier on, apparently).

Just noticed I made my screenshots from a scaled browser window, so they are all fuzzy. Will have to redo them.

FYI, tampermonkey works on Opera.

Although, there's been some change recently, and the nu planets scripts disconnect after a while. I need to investigate that.

v0.4.1 of RedrawAndFilter: Shows neutronium in ships as well; adds neutronium of ships and planet in one location together, shows it as one circle.

The fun starts! v0.4.2 has two filters, one for ships, one for neutronium. So you can look at:
- ships and neutronium: the total amount of neutr on planet and in ships is shown
- only neutronium: ships are hidden & only neutr on planets is shown
- only ships; the default
- neither: only planets, bases, minefields etc are left.

Screenshots and download at http://chmeee.org/project/planets.nu/wiki/RedrawAndFilter

Note: if you use it, also update http://chmeee.org/project/planets.nu/wiki/ShowNote since you do not want to see notes of ships when you do not view ships :)

For the future: more toggles, so you can hide things from the starmap that you do not want to see, to create space for things that you *are* interested in. Such as other resources, which should be added as well.

Happy playing!

The fun continues! v0.6 released
- Can filter minefields (v0.5)
- Can show dur, trit, molyb, supp, MC, clans
- Can show natives, indicating tax revenue (you will want to check the documentation incl screenshot for the exact meaning of the size of that circle; I'm open to alternatives and improvements on this representation!)

Look at Trit and Molyb at the same time when building fighters;
Or look at supplies and MC for a monetary overview (early game)
or look at supplies and trit for your neutronic refineries (later in the game)
or any combination that helps you with your logistics.

Download, screenshots with explanations at
http://chmeee.org/project/planets.nu/wiki/RedrawAndFilter

Note: showing colonist clans is not useful for the Borg, suggestions to improve that are welcome!

Happy Easter!

RedrawAndFilter 0.7 contains several extra toggles & shows native type on the map.
ShowNotes 0.5 shows pseudo-notes for ships that are out of fuel in your webs.
HideMapTip 1.0 hides the 'helpful' tip on the map about clicking and dragging.

I just installed the plugin and to actually be able to immediately distinguish between resources on the surface and still below ground is immense. The standard view has always been worthless to me. And I haven't even looked at anything else yet! Good Job!

Tried out the plugins and they're very useful.
Thankyou.

Note: I'm finding a slight issue with the ship waypoint display, when dealing with multiple ships at the same location.
If I set a planet or ship as a destination for any ships within a group, I am rewarded with a green line leading to a small yellow circle at the selected destination. No problem so far.
If I set several ships to differing waypoints in deep space, I am given the green lines, but no yellow destination circles, so it's not immediately apparent which ship belongs to which green line. Not an big issue, I realize. Just thought I'd mention it in the name of feedback.

Glad you all like it!

@Celestial Is that caused by my plugin? 'coz I get that also when I don't use it.

I've switched on the range circle default (in settings) that Big Beefer implemented recently. That way I have a blue circle around the destination, sized by warp speed, which helps me see where the currently selected ship is going.

I can confirm the same issue. I miss not seeing a different (yellow) color for the selected ship path and would prefer that to just seeing the way-point indicated in some other way.

I also find it a little more difficult to "see" empires, including my own. And it made me think of a Risk-type game I occasionally play. It has options on how you wish to display the map. One of them is "connected empire" and when that is selected all the territories (planets in our case) that are contiguous are displayed. It occurred to me that this would be a nice feature. Maybe instead of the standard background a light wash of race color could help in this regard. Just a thought.... :)

I'm confused. This is what it looks like for me with a selected ship: http://chmeee.org/ext/planets.nu/yellow-circle.gif (firefox, debian linux)

@Mule, I agree on the "seeing" empires. I may experiment with merging own/enemy ship circles into one size, it'd allow to draw the planets slightly larger again. As for a light background wash, that might work, too (Voronoi diagrams, yay!)

McN: Yes, your screenshot shows 2 blueish lines and one yellow dot. The standard display (which I prefer) would show 1 or more green lines for non-selected ships and just 1 yellow LINE for the selected ship route. Not just a yellow circle around that ship's way-point.

Ah-ah. Thanks for explaining. I was playing crystals in yellow recently, so had not seen/forgotten this.

I *think* the yellow line is still drawn *underneath* what my plugin does. Zoom in my screenshot, the blue line is on top of the yellow circle.

I'll figure out whether that is indeed what happens, but if so, it may be non-trivial to do anything about it.

@Mule has further detailed the minor issue with pathlines that I was referring to. I can at least use the waypoint distance numeric indicator as a fairly quick reference should a fix prove problematic.

I am also now experiencing the same issue with ShowNotes as @Glyn. It was working, until today. (Firefox (37.0.2) and the same version of Shownotes (0.5)).

I am not experiencing it in my games, so I'm going to need some help. If you could show up on #planets on irc.quakenet.org, we may have an easier time figuring things out.

A thing that is interesting to try is to see of v0.4 does not have the problem. Quite possible, due to a new feature for the crystals.

Realized that the 0.5-feature (xtal out-of-fuel notes tagged to ships) could potentially fail if you cannot see the ship itself. Fixed. Took the opportunity to split logic and drawing muuuch better and bring it under automated test, also should prevents all kinds of regressions in the future.

So please try v0.5.2 and let me know whether that fixes ShowNotes for your games.

The ShowNotes 0.5.2 extension freezes up 2 of my games during loading. I'm using SRWare Iron (Chromium) version 41.

Reverting to 0.4 fixed the freeze on loading issue.

Another extension I'm using (Improved Movement Indicators, see http://userscripts-mirror.org/users/442498/scripts) helps with the green/yellow line confusion by adding a small circle at the waypoint.

@Rsk @Glyn @Celestial

I'll need your help, I am out of ideas. Ran it in Firefox and chromium with and without my other plugins, and it works for me.
So can you upgrade ShowNotes to 0.5.2
1) press F12 in Chromium? A panel should show with many tabs at the top
2) Select the Console tab.
3) load the game with problems?
Some error should show up in red. It will be very terse, but it is better than nothing.

In addition, what race are you playing in those games? Crystals, perhaps?
Do you use many notes? on all three of ships, planets, bases? On enemy / unowned objects?

Since I'm an old(fashioned) planeteer, you can also find me on #planets on irc.quakenet.org there we can chat.

@mcnimble: Thanks for the heads up on Ked's script. I installed the script and scratched my head a while - unable to see a change on the map. Then I looked at the code and couldn't see anything that should wash out the color choices.

Feeling like a dunce, I finally saw the TERRITORY and ALLIANCE setting under map tools. I also belatedly found the variables under settings. It is interesting but not quite what I wanted.

Anyway... Thanks for the follow up.

I love the note display. The display of minerals, natives, etc also seems nice.

As has already been mentioned, it is very hard to see which planets belong to me, belong to an opponent, or are unexplored. Choosing very bright planet colors helps a little (currently using bright red for enemy and bright yellow for myself).

The problem with seeing planets gets much worse when zooming out because at a certain zoom level the planet dots get smaller. With the planet dots already so small, I think that the same size should continue to be used when zoomed out.

@Celestial @Ericlavigne @Mule

I agree with you - up to a point :) and I don't want you to turn off the add-on 1) it is terribly inconvenient to do multiple times per turn, 2) I would hate to loose users that give feedback.

I am using two laptops to do my turns. One with a 1024x600 screen, where every pixel saved helps viewing other things; and despite my age, I see the dots very well (using high brightness, no dust on the screen :). So I respectfully disagree with you. My OTHER screen is 3200x1800, but most importantly, it is 250dpi. I fully agree with you there! I have to use the browser's zoom because the font is unreadable, and then the dots are still small. (photos look a-ma-zing on that screen!)

Now that the filters are working, that is another way to save pixels, i.e. use more space for what is displayed.

So here's what I will do: I will make some pre-set sizes and arrangements, and you can let me know what you like best, or how you'd like to see it. Depending on results, I may leave the pre-sets in, or go full configurability (could be too complex), or perhaps 1 setting turns out to be good enough for everyone (unlikely). So, we'll see :) We may have several rounds of this, since I have a couple of funky ideas :)

As for making smaller dots when zooming out, I'll have another look and either take it out or come up with another plan.

If you have other suggestions for solutions, feel free to propose them now, or later.

My display is 1920x1080, so halfway between your two displays. Even the way it is now, I'm not turning this plugin off. I'm just compensating by choosing very bright planet colors. It would be even better if I could make the planets a little bigger.

I am thinking of three pre-set sizes, selectable from the same menu as redraw's population/mineral filters. Smallest size would be the same as the current size. The other two sizes would be 50% larger and 100% larger.

BTW, smaller issue that you already mentioned with borg colonist populations: I suggest a maximum size for the colonist circle, so that the circle stops growing once you reach 5000 clans.

I feel like a complainer... :(

My next problem is that all "enemy" ships are indicated with a red circle. (I would prefer a dot for ships and a circle for planets, but that isn't really what I am unhappy about.

Somehow I have lost the ability to color each race differently. Probably too many add-ons. But, I have enemies (that really aren't) and enemies (that really ARE!) And now they are all the same color and I have to hover my pointer to distinguish friend from foe!

This is a bigger problem than the size of planet dots.

LOL... :)

Actually, I wrote a bit of code way back when I got my first Vic 20. Then I "graduated" to an 8 bit Commodore 64. You HAD to write code because there wasn't much you could buy. We used BASIC - and it was.

Even though I've fought against it, I've had to do a bit more here and there since then. But at my rather advanced age, it now hurts my brain. Ouch!

No the 8K (red box) and the docs of the vic-20 were hard to understand if nobody can explain hexadecimal to you. Still, 6502 ops were easy to program. So I graduated to a BBC, which had an assembler, yeah! And further to /370 ...

If you want to work my scripts, take them from git://chmeee.org/planets.nu and publish your work somewhere (I'll merge it).

@Glyn thanks, I try to make my code readable and maintainable. Still struggling with the combination of unit tests (Models) and breakpoints in the greasemonkey scripts (wrappers). ShowNotes is in a good shape, RedrawAndFilter less so.

@Mule I'm taking colors from diplomatic relations first, settings second. Settings default to red, diplomatic relations to nothing; so the only thing I can imagine right now is that you took over a position mid-game from someone who did not set colors for diplomatic relations.

Now if you have another add-on that manipulates the diplomatic relations... or that overrides drawing of planets & ships like RedrawAndFilter does...

I'll get a new release out asap (with test in place so it never happens again; ghost ships are too rare to rely on anything else :)

Meanwhile, I need a color for ghost ships. Grey seems right, if boring.

There we go, RedrawAndFilter v0.7.2
- @Rsk fix for ghost ships (in grey)
- @Ericlavigne colonists capped slightly above 5000 clans (if it were 5000 exactly, it'd make the circle the same size as for Natives, expected late in the game)
- several sizes available for planets
Ship sizes grow accordingly
No reduction in size of planets when zooming out (personally, I find it terrible for larger planet sizes)
I found the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx option in firefox, which makes my life generally better, but makes the planets.nu canvas blurry
- larger area to click the toggles

Feedback welcome!

Much better. I like size 4.5 for typical play, and size 3 when zoomed out. I don't zoom out very often, so I'm happy to manually switch between these if necessary.

Hi, just found your plugin Redraw and Filter and I love it!
Especially the very clear overview of all MC, Supplies, resources, etc. on planets. My compliments for creating such a plugin.

I read some remarks about the color of planets and I wondered what the conclusion was. Because this is the only reason for me not to use this plugin as the difference in color between my planets and enemy planets is not very clear.
I also play in a team-game and there my team-members planets and ships were not purple/blue anymore, but just the same color as the enemy planets, namely pink for planets and red for ships.

Is there any change coming up or is it an issue on my side?

@Peetee - the colors won't change based on your diplomatic relationship (from red to blue) as does the standard interface. But if you change colors manually in the Diplomacy page (within the game) those colors ARE picked up by the plugin. Works great for me.

The solution is simpler than I thought.
I've changed the 'diplomacy' color and after this also made enemy planets a darker red (#ff3434) and now things are perfect for me.

Thanks for the tip Rsk!

@Mcnimble is it an idea and a possibility to have the Redraw filter option allways active on the starmap?
I now notice that when I switch between the starmap and the dashboard that when I return to the starmap, the top bar of Redraw is gone and I have to select it again.

Not a big thing, but would be nice if it would be there by default, or by setting.

@Peetee yeah, I think it'd be good to show the bar again when doing starmap-dashboard-starmap, or maybe only when any of the settings is not in the default. I'm sometimes getting annoyed by the clicking as well :) I will not put it there by default, because there are other add-ons that use the same location to put their bar.

- Show ammo (see new screenshot)
- @Peetee Show filters when returning to map, unless user closed it by clicking on the blueish '>'
- Adjust potential income of natives for unowned planets to the current player
- Experiment: use same radius for own/enemy ships (if you find this useful, let me know, 'coz I found its use limited)

RedrawAndFilter 0.8.2 released

Can show hull types.
Shows "1 Resolute", "2 Dark Wing".
Will show "1 LDSF" once for you and once for me, if we have an LDSF at the same location.
You must choose whether you want to see ship hulls, ship notes, just ships, or no ships at all.

Download and screenshot at http://chmeee.org/project/planets.nu/wiki/RedrawAndFilter

Feedback welcome! As per http://planets.nu/#/activity/2165769 some ships (like freighters) have special names already. Plural not done. IDs not done, yet.

@McNimble Wonderful work on your plugins! The show notes plugin is extremely useful, and the redraw and filter has some very nice features too.

However, I regulary color-code planets via the NU notes function. When I activate RedrawAndFilter, it does not show those colors, but shows all my planets white and all allied/enemy planets in the colors set in the diplomacy screen.

Could you make an option in RedrawAndFilter to show each planet in the color I set via the notes? If that would be possible, I'd surely use RedrawAndFilter on all my games.

@Imzadi Interesting request, but I am hesitant because colors are used for ships and planets at the same time, mixing them will cause confusion and hiding all other things but color-coded planets is probably not what you are looking for.

Let me ask a question in return: what do your color codes mean? Perhaps there are other ways to show the meaning (other than in notes, which you already have on the map).

McN: I guess I need McNimble's Toolkit to run the 'Redraw and Filter' plugin... I followed the link "Download it from here"... And I made sure sure it runs before the plugin. I assumed I wanted v9.1 because I have a laptop. And yet I now get the warning to go get it ever time I load Planets site. What is up with that? So, until this is made a bit clearer (or easier) I'll remove both.

BTW: I tend to color code planets with Amorphs and good base natives.

@mule Yes, you need it; I'll probably need your help to make the warning/message/requirements clearer...

What is the exact message?

If it is "You need McNimble's Toolkit to run ..." double check that the toolkit is executed first (not last, or it just appears at the top while being sorted on something else than execution order, GreaseMonkey is not nice in that regard)
Also not Disabled, accidentally?

If the message is "You need McNimble's Toolkit of at least version 0.9.1...", get the latest version.

Restart Firefox?

Beyond that, when inside a planets game, hit F12, find the console, type
vgap.plugins["McNimble's Toolkit"]
if it comes up with "undefined" it is not installed, if it comes up with a complex object, you may see the version major 0, minor 9, step 1

Then vgap.plugins[0] should show the same, if not, the toolkit is not the first to get loaded.

Hope that helps, if not, let's find another communication channel to debug your problem.

Another nice plugin, McNimble. Installation is getting a bit harder, but well worth it. Your toolkit approach may also encourage other plugin developers.

Had a hard time finding the hull type option until I read Frostriese's comment for a second time, so I agree it could use some visual indicator that it isn't just on/off like the other options.

Choosing between notes or hull types... Why not both? I'll be using fewer notes now that I don't need to add "probe" and "merlin" notes to my ships to see that info from the starmap, but if I do add a note I'd like to see it.

@ericlavigne not both because I found it somewhat confusing and because I wanted to get something out for feedback. Sure enough, I'm getting it :) Will add a "both" option.

It would be really cool if someone else would build a plugin using the 'put a string on the map at location (x,y) such that it will not overwrite other text at that same location' or 'browser-based setting' from McNimblesToolkit. In any case, the toolkit is what allows me to stay sane while keeping my other plugins separated, so you can use ShowNotes but not ForNetbooks.

@McNimble: Color-coding makes it extremely easy to see, in the blink of an eye, which planets have good tax-income (yellow), have good mining-rates (light green), are good starbase-locations (white), have all minerals exhausted (brown) or need clans/supplies (blue), which aids in economical planning. For planets with less income or mining-rates I use darker yellow and darker green. I've read that some players use different colors for planets with good dur/tri/mol mining-rates, but personally I think that creates too much fuss on the starmap.

Sometimes I play my turns on my tablet and Color-coding is the only way to put information on the starmap when playing on a tablet/phone. Too make the .NU-experience/starmap on tablet and pc as much alike as possible, I'd prefer seeing the colors on my PC too and that prevents me of using the, in all other aspects, excellent RedrawAndFilter.

If you could program an option that allows users to choose between standard planet-colors OR planet-colors entered via notes, than any user could make it's own decision what color-scheme to use on the map.

Perhaps ShowNotes can show "[###]" or so in the map when the color is set, but there is no text. Using the actual color, of course. Would that help you? How do others feel about that?

I'm personally confused about the fact that the color of a note changes the color of a *planet* rather than the original yellow square (but show nothing for a ship, nor change its color). So long ago I decided to keep the color with the note, because, conceptually, that's where it belong. In other words, I'm not going to build this particular feature in RedrawAndFilter, hence the suggestion at the top of this post. ShowNotes will use the color already, when both color and text are set.

----

I suppose you know RedrawAndFilter can do most you mention, but for others:
- native view is an indication of native income. Dashes show government level
- 'needs clans' can be colonist circle smaller than native circle (for the particular aggressive taxing scheme that I picked; we can talk about other taxing schemes)
- minerals each have their own color,
- minerals exhausted, uhm, trivial.
- mineral densities are shown with dashes
- good starbase locations, comes from natives and minerals combined? The natives that give a tech level are all a shade of blue.

"needs" is player judgement and not something RedrawAndFilter is aiming for. I use notes for that; without color, in part because the UI is clunky.

@Mcnimble Thanks for you fast replies!

I do like the fact that the color of a note changes the color of a planet, since I think that's the easiest way to highlight anything on the map without cluttering it. And it's the only way that works on my tablet too.
But it's all a matter of personal taste.

The native view, minerals views etc in RedrawAndFilter are all useful and better than the original NU views, but clutter the map too much in my opinion when having multiple views active simultaneous.

Good starbase locations can be anything. Humanoid, Ghipsoldal or high-population-temperate-climate Bovinoid planets, a planet with large amount of at least 2 minerals in high-density. Also any location that gives a tactical advantage can make a planet an important base-location. Personal judgement is often more important than any analysis a plugin can make.

I often use notes for ships, for ship missions (bring clans to planet 123) and 'standard' notes for warships, large freighters and specialty ships, so I can locate them on the map quickly. With planets coded by colors and ships by notes, everything on the map is immediately clear: any text belongs to a ship. If I start using planet-notes, that would clutter the map more and makes it more difficult to see if a note belongs to a planet or ship.

But again, it's all personal taste.

Planet color is the only way to know from the starmap who owns a planet, so I prefer for the planet color to continue to show ownership - not reflecting note color.

I have used planet colors in a similar way in the past, Imzadi. Orange for bases, purple for the most valuable planets, green for planets that needed more colonists or supplies, yellow for typical developed planets, blue for planets that didn't interest me. This worked reasonably well for me, but I needed to be careful to keep track of when my planets were captured, because they would continue to look like my own rainbow-colored planets. Show notes lets me use similar color coding on the notes, with no danger of those colors obscuring changes in ownership - so much better than before.

I solved my problem (it was priority) and got this working. Lots to like but still one remaining issue - planet colors. I have followed the same learning curve as Eric. While using color to identify certain planet conditions is"nice" - being able to see "who" owns it is critical.

For me to continue using it, I would need to at least have this be a choice.

@Mule This plugin always uses ownership to determine planet color, but has rather poor default coloring. Look for a color selection option on the diplomacy/relationships screen. Each race gets a planet/ship coloring of your choice. After taking time to choose colors, I like this better than the me/friendly/enemy triple coloring that PlanetsNu uses by default.

Yeah, and all planets appear white when Viewing games.

@Imzadi The planet note is shown above the dot, ship notes are shown below the circles. It is some visual distinction. Alternatively, you can hide ships, and with it the notes, when you want to focus on planets.

Planets themselves will remain colored by owner.

I may implement the 'empty string' if a color is specified (or some unicode square or other shape) in ShowNotes. Even if I do, it will not be high on my priority list.

@Mule glad you got it working

When I started with Redraw, I assumed everybody was using the diplomacy colors. Coming from tools like VPA, JV(P)C, not having 11 colors for 11 players is just... inadequate. But assumption is the mother of all F* ups. Still, I need to get the blue color for team members in, but that is not very high on my todo (gosh). I'd prefer planets.nu to clean up their coloring schemes, really (typing "#338833" is... too technical. The thing for notes and diplomacy is... too limited. Gimme a standard color wheel, thank you, also for my *own* color per game, please).

OK; From what you say, it would seem the documentation of RedrawAndFilter needs improvement. The different views of "what can I do with it', 'how do I use it for a particular need', and 'I have a problem, help!' are all needed; but the latter two are pretty much nonexistent. So I'll work on that (it is a wiki page, you can edit it, too).

I play like ancient military strategy guys ... blue are mine; yellow is ally; red is enemy ... regardless what kind.

IMHO: Playing VGAP with more than 5 colors distract from the core elements of the game. Building ECO is done by me with notes about the planets and the Redraw Filter for needed minerals ;-)

RedrawAndFilter v0.8.3
* indicator for Ship drop-down menu,
* defaults to both hull types and notes (though you can change a setting to show only notes, by default, this may be useful by the time you have big fleets. I'm assuming that when you have ShowNotes installed, you want to see notes, by default)

Note: You will need to upgrade McNimblesToolkit, too, since this release uses the per-game setting from it; the reason not to show hull types by default would appear to be game depenedent, not browser dependent. Well, perhaps person-dependent, but that is incredibly hard to do with one setting for all browsers and all games ;) Actually, setting is easy enough, it's the modification that is hard.

Furthermore, the documentation has been rearranged, feedback welcome, especially when you just began using it. I think I need a T+M+supp screenshot, and I want a notes+messages screenshot. Any others?

"You will need to upgrade McNimblesToolkit, too, since this release uses the per-game setting from it; the reason not to show hull types by default would appear to be game depenedent, not browser dependent."

I read this to mean that whether to show hulls, notes, or both is now sticky when I close and re-open the game. But I tried that and the setting always reverts to default when I re-open the game.

@ericlavigne should be fixed (McNimblesToolkit 0.9.3, now marked as that version)

RedrawAndFilter release 0.8.5
- render allied ships/planets in blue (or whatever allied ships/planets are colored in the normal settings
- cap MC (10,000 as it is max ship content) and supplies (somewhat above 5000, smaller than MC because more planets carry supplies), or the circles rendered are so big as to be meaningless,
- no more fuzzy background, real black is the fashion, erm, less distraction is better vision
- render edges of nebulas, debris disks and star clusters (the almost-black outer side of all of them is pretty much invisible; the nebulas don't look good, yet)

In sphere games, a planet or ship near the border can appear in up to 4 places with two different IDs. It may even have separate notes in those two different IDs. The ShowNotes plugin currently shows the note in only one of these 4 places.

When planet 69 is shown outside the border, it has an ID of -69. I'm thinking that a note placed on either planet 69 or on planet -69 should be shown on every place where planets with either of these IDs appear. If separate notes are associated with these two IDs, then both should be shown.

Oh dear, I have such a different concept of how Sphere *should* work that it never occurred to me that you can attach a different note to the ship/planet/base with the negative ID (I think it is bad design to duplicate information on the server for client, rather than change the rendering in the client; you just gave another reason why it is bad).

I agree with you that (given the current design) if there is 1 note, it should be shown in all places. I am not sure what to do with the availability of two notes, since I don't know how there came to be two notes: user realized he made a second note, or user did NOT realize that. What ShowNotes should do depends on that intent. Not knowing that intent, showing both notes *in all places* may be safest.

RE: A small plugin to show notes in the starmap, and a big...Write Reply
I'm fairly certain that attaching notes to negative planet or ship IDs is a bug. The UI shifts focus to the positive ID version when selecting your own ships and planets, so that this would never happen. The same shift does not happen with unowned/enemy ships/planets.

There's also the possibility that the player puts a note on a negative planet, and is later unable to change that either because they colonize the planet or because the bug is fixed. Maybe it's better to ignore all negative notes and display the positive note in all 4 places.

I'll follow up with a bug report to PlanetsNu admin. Notes attached to negative IDs should not be allowed in the UI.
