Can someone help me understand the FoF in the following game:

http://planets.nu/#/sector/149859

Here are the bits of info spread throughout the description:

Fight or Fail: 4 Planets (+1 in 2 Turns)
Fight or Fail will increase by 1 every 4 turns.

Fight or Fail! You must control at least the number of planets shown to stay alive in this game. The Fight or Fail limit will increase every 4 Turns. The Fight or Fail limit will become active on Turn 20.

fightorfail: 4
fofincrement: 4

So does that mean that on turn 20 a player has to have 4 planets and in 2 (or is is it 4?) turns has to have 5?

OR

Does that mean that on turn 1 a player has to have 4 planets, on turn 3 - 5 planets, on turn 7 - 6 planets, turn 11 - 7 planets and so on?

Thanks.

On turn 20 you need a minimum of 4 and on turn 24 you need 5. And so on and so on.

Actually it is 5 planets on turn 20, and 6 on 24, etc. And earlier it would be 1 planet at turn 4, 2 at turn 8, and so on. But as noted, in this game it won't come into effect until turn 20 (this is for running start games only, other games it is in effect from the very beginning).

The most important thing is to realize you need that many planets at the *START* of the turn. So if it's turn 19 and you only have 4 planets, you need to figure out a way to get 1 more immediately.

Another one, if I may.

It says "win conditions: diplomatic planets". But in the settings on the bottom it says " endturn: 100". So will this game end on turn 100 or do normal diplomatic planets rules apply (i.e. game goes until 200/player or 250/alliance)?

On turn 100, unless the diplomatic conditions are met first with enough time left to trigger the 5 turn countdown.

What Furey is saying is this:

If diplomatic condition is met then game ends at end of countdown, if not then it ends on turn 100 and who has the most planets wins.

Here is an example of 100 turn game ending early due to diplomatic planets

i don't think that's how it works - at least for diplomatic planets. if you notice the recent announcement of ugo sector (http://planets.nu/#/sector/108704), the settings say endturn 100 but it didn't end until 176.

i did find a game where it ended after 100 turns and the player with the most planets won but the win condition was FixedTurn (http://planets.nu/#/sector/130960).

That's a good point. I was assuming his game also said "Win condition: fixed turn"

On a fixed turn game diplomatic planets will certainly end the game early, as Azz pointed out.

I'm not sure that that "endturn 100" setting does, @Bigbeefer or someone will have to comment on that, but it certainly seems to be different from "Fixed Turn 100"

Good catch.

The endturn setting only applies when the win condition is fixed turn. When it does apply, it will show in the settings box at the top of the page (you don't need to go to the detailed settings page). All games have an endturn setting (and it defaults to 100), just like all games have values for the production queue parameters, even though some don't use them.

We don't use the fixed turn victory condition anymore for system-created games, preferring the increasing FoF system that your first question was about. So in general, the only fixed turn games you'll come across will be custom games or older melee games created before the Gemini War.
