hello,

before suggesting this, i would like to discuss this idea with you:

what would happen, if we could transfer cash and torps to foreign ships and planets
from the cargo transfer interface instead of using the transfer friendly codes?

as some might know i am very conservative about game changes,
but somehow it is hard to explain and understand, why everything but torps and cash can't be transferred from the usual interface. beaming down those things to uncolonized planets makes sense to me and would have a strong effect when colonizing, but transferring to foreign ships or allied planets? wouldn't a precise cargo transfer from the interface make the game much better playable/understandable and improve precise allied playing?

are there any special situations when this semi-blocked (fcode) mechanism is crucial instead of being square like most of the time?

I'm just thinking ...

I would change the game:
a)
you could then transfer money & torps in the same turn (not just one after the other)

b)
you could transfer just a few torps (or bucks) instead of just all

c)
FCs have the nice side effect that they can be exploited by your enemy, e.g. he could guess that you're using a special FC.
If FCs (some of them) get replaced by clientside functionality then these exploits can't work anymore.

d)
the "Beam transfer fcodes" are another step in the host order than the clientside transfers.
Do you want to put them together (to one step) ?

I don't see any game-breaking issues (though I'm not that experienced), but it would allow for transferring both money and torpedoes in the same turn.

a) and b) would in my opinion make the game more intuitive and (although it's easier to handle) open a new range of possibilities for allied gameplay. somehow the btt and btm codes feel a bit tweaky/programmed/added to me and won't have a big impact on the game mechanics. or do i miss something here?

very good points with c) and d), although i wonder how to exploit btt or btm. when guessing surrender codes, i would usually go for lfm, mkt and ntp... which are not effected by that.. do you have an example, how the beam transfer codes can be exploited via the host order?

i guess the transfer fcodes would need to stay in effect, especially because we have 'superspy' in the game and btt is used to redirect evenly spread cash from 'bum'... but that's a hell of a work-around, just to get the cash onto one ship..

a bit offtopic: hmmm..  there must be something how to leave superspy in effect and get rid of 'bum' as well. any ideas?

No, not really. I just wrote down what came to my mind.

Actually I find it's a good idea to add torp and money transfers to the client.

i would love to see these added and cant see any real game changing affect to this, happy for people to identify them..?

especially in the team games where close coordination is needed this would help alot.

The only error of caution I might add, is that the birds would be able to beam your cash and more importantly torpedoes up from your bases. It's one thing to let us steal mc's and supplies and build torps off your resources slowly. Another to allow us to steal them directly.
