Has anyone yet found a good way to colonize those planetoids?
I think it is all about bringing a lot of supplies or bringing the money/minerals for a mining base.
The description about dying colonists and eating supplies at donovan's is a little too cryptic for me and I don't trust the UI about these numbers. As I understand it, you need 40 supplies per 10 clans for them to survive and some more (how many exactly?) they can eat. So 10 clans is a good number for one planetoid. Adding up 40 supplies to survive, 1 to eat and 10 for 10 factories (bring money!) equals 51 supplies.
For 3 Planetoids that's:
30 clans
153 Supplies
90 MC
Good enough for a MDSF - better be not Fascists and have a bigger ship that can go into debris disks.

Any suggestions?

Yes, the UI is a little buggy about eating supplies.  I'm writing up a bug report detailing the issues.

For original VGAP, you need 40 supplies per 10 clans; planets.nu computes it in single-clan increments.  However, supplies are eaten first, so you should add those to the number, as you did.  I'm still not quite clear on how to calculate #supplies eaten, but for small overpopulation (below 100 clans) it's certainly only 1.  And the number is rounded, so 6 supplies (7 before eating) support 2 clans above maximum population.

Factories produce supplies before they're eaten (the Nu-UI is incorrect about this, but Nu-Host does do it that way).  So, to maintain an overpopulation of 10 clans and build 10 factories, I believe you'd need to bring only 39 supplies and 30 MC per planetoid.  You can thus even colonise 4 planetoids with a single MDSF load.  (Note that in the original VGAP, because of rounding, 21 supplies would suffice!)

(I've never played a game that had planetoids by the way, but from what you write, I gather that they just have a maximum population of 0?)

Correct, maximum population is zero unless there's a mining base, then it's 500 - see here.
I found out that 38 Supplies are not enough for 10 Colonists. The UI states they were, but it misses the supplies eaten (and the factories as you wrote). So 39 could be actually correct - I'll test that and report.

So, to get more benefit from a maxpop 69 desert bovinoid planet, I would just need to dump extra clans there after producing an initial stockpile of supplies, and they would then live on happily collecting supplies and taxes, if I just don't sell that stockpile?
