Give Ship FC not workingWrite Reply
So I'm reluctant to post publicly what game I'm having the issue in, but I am trying to give two ships to an ally, his ship at the same location has clans, and after reading of a really old bug I have clans on my ships as well. Both of my ships have FC "gs1" or "gs2" as needed for this situation but many turns later my ships are not changing and it's throwing off our entire strategy.
Any idea why?
An admin could PM for game specifics

The ships of the player who is RECEIVING the ship must have clans on board. It is irrelevant whether or not the ship being given has clans on board.

That is what I understood as well. After a few turns of the RECEIVING ship having clans onboard and not actually receiving the ships, I did some bug research and found something over a year old about the giving ships needing clans onboard so we made sure that BOTH sets of ships had clans and still no transfer.

Is your ally registered? If I recall correctly, "gsX" codes only work for registered users.

Is there fuel onboard both ships? Not sure for both, but receiving ship should have fuel to 'board'.

RE: Give Ship FC not workingWrite Reply
Yes, all ships involved have fuel. No, this particular ally does not have an upgraded account. Is that a requirement?? It's not under the 'benefits' listed on the upgrade page. What a huge hurdle to strategy if this is indeed the issue.

Remember the X in gsX is game position number, not race number. For example, giving a ship to Starlina in your Niopedia Sector game would be gs1, not gsa, because Starlina is in the first position.

This can get really hairy in Melee games with 30 positions. Giving Johnny Rotten a ship in your Olive Sector Melee game would be gss (s = position 28), not gs9.

Btw, this was done sowe could have multiple players of the same race in the same game. This is actually a change from TimHost, where the situation never came up (I think).

Select a ship and select primary enemy. When the list comes up, you look and see what letter or number your friend is and set the fc to gs"X", "X"  being the position of your friend on the list, like mjs said.

Thank you, MJS and Capt Chaos, that should solve the problem; we shall see on the next turn. A logical situation and solution, but not a well documented one it seems. Thanks for your time

Also. Planets Nu, unlike the legacy VGA Planets 3, does not require premium to use ANY friendly codes or hull functions, even codes or functions that would otherwise require it. Therefore, your ship transfer seems to have failed because of the issues outlined by mjs.

RE: Give Ship FC not workingWrite Reply
ashland, you bring up a good point. Since new players, including those who haven't played since the 90's, are put into a Melee game, these changes should be highlighted for newcomers:

1. gsX - X = position number, not race number

2. miX - X = position number, not race number

3. Any Crystal can fly through any web minefield any time.

Donovans is right 99.9% of the time. But, these are 3 definite changes from Donovans.

So, for the races in positions using letters, what is the FC?
gsA or GSA or gsa? Should it not be the first one?

What other conditions must be met? I thought as long as the ships are in the same position at the beginning of the turn...

What conditions can prevent trade? Cloak on? Damage level?

I see from these that cloaking does not affect transferring ship. Just clan, position and FC.

That leaves the code question. The Planets Nu link above LOOKS LIKE lower case is the right code. Though the 'Primary Enemy' list uses uppercase for position.

AFAIK, friendly codes are not case sensitive functionality-wise in Nu, but you would need to use gsa in the legacy VGA Planets 3.

The codes are case insensitive.

Cloak or damage don't affect trade.

In case you want some bedtime reading, I wrote an article about collaborative play that deals with giving ships away and a lot of other issues, so you might find it helpful. Check it out at http://www.planetsmagazine.com/?p=794

RE: Give Ship FC not workingWrite Reply
Xalorous, the receiving ship CANNOT be cloaked.

The giving ship CAN be cloaked.

On VGAP.nu, all fcodes are case insensitive, except:

minefield codes. They must match exactly to fly safely through. This allows you to have multple choices on a planet, while not compromising your minefield. Example, if you like ATT, you can also have Att, AtT, ATt, att, atT, aTt, aTT for your planet, all with the same effect. This will allow you to have the ATT code on your planet/SB if that is your preference, but still have 8 different possibilities for an invader to have to guess to avoid your mines, if he knows you prefer ATT.

vielen danke!

Exactly what I needed. The problem is not lack of information, it's that there's too much, it's scattered everywhere, and some of it conflicts or is inaccurate.

I've never had a problem giving ships to a cloaked ally. Giving cargo has been a problem for me when using share intel and not full ally. Have you tried this recently mjs??

Agreed.. too much info everywhere, much of it obsolete. Donovan's is our best friend and also the greatest offender.

RE: Give Ship FC not workingWrite Reply
I stand corrected. It is cargo, not ships that you cannot give to a cloaked ally (btf, btt, btm), including full allies in a team game.

Ironically, planet to cloaker DOES work, bum (probably so Superspy will work.)

RE: Give Ship FC not workingWrite Reply
Sorry, a little off topic, but have you had problems with cargo transfer to a cloaked ship with full allies in an 11-player game? Not btf/btt/btm, but manual beam transfers (minerals/fuel) using clientside transporters??

This is one of the so-called "VPA Features" that was enabled sometime around 1998 to keep the TC from attacking when you transferred to a ship you weren't supposed to be able to see... Here on Nu I thought we had a bugfix or something to match the behavior of host 3.2 with VPA Features set to yes... (argh, confusing!)

I would actually like to know because I'm about to transfer something to an ally's cloaker right now :D
