Greetings Nu Community,

I am organizing PlanetsCON NA1 for this coming October in Springfield, OH.

I have been reaching out today to experienced players asking if they would be interested in attending and most importantly presenting.

Please check your PM contact information if you are within 500 miles of Springfield, OH and are an experienced player (Rear Admiral and up).

I do not want to exclude anyone based on geography or experience, however, this is just my effort to build out an agenda for the CON.

If you are planing on attending PlanetsCON-NA1 in Springfield, OH (September 30, October 1-2) and are willing to present on a topic, please send me a private message and follow up on this thread if I do not contact you with 72 hours.

The physical space is in place, but I need skilled and willing presenters to make this a valuable event for the community.

This is your opportunity to give back to the community in a big way.

- "Chasing The Wild Troll" -- complete with pictures of fewmets, details on tracing their tracks, and possibly a mounted head (if I can get Glyn to hold still long enough)
- "Lost In The Weeds: Documentation, Year Three"
- "How To Win The Damn Game"
- "Let's Meet At The Bar So We Can Skip The Capricorn Update"
- "The Impact Of President Clinton's Anti-Planets Policies On The Nu Generation"

If things shape up as I hope, I might be able to present some tiny bits of Planets fiction by that point, but building the framework for that has proven to be such a vast time-sink that it's possible I'll have to give that a miss.

I will be heading down to Springfield soon to gather up some pricing information. They have a nice BBQ joint were we can get dinner, there is a private club nearby that is open to convention attendees, I'll see if we can't get a private room there for some casual conversations about Capricorn (if it is still going on) :-).

It is located at a museum, so you also have that option and there is very nice hipster cafe that is part of the museum that can provide some 'as needed' food. Overall, a very nice venue. Hotel right across the street.

Look for ticket prices mid to late June. Remember I will also schedule some open time to give everyone a chance to play historical miniatures as we will be at the flagship con for the Great Lakes Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (HMGS). So lots of great games will be available.

I also want to touch base again with the organizers of the first PlanetCON conventions to get their help and insight on what went well and what was challenging.

Just a side note, everyone relax... @Gnerphk: I'd grow a neckbeard just for a laugh for this PlanetsCon, but I have to wear a breathing mask due to chemicals I work with and also Alberta law forbids anyone on construction sites to have facial hair. Although I've never managed to get past 3/4 inch length facial hair before the itching drove me up the wall anyhow.

@Tom+Graves: I don't know if you recall, but I suggested finding out last time if there will be a 3d printer at the miniatures event, or possibly a Planets Nu member could bring theirs?

We bounced some thoughts back and forth and the presenters have headed back to their mad scientist labs to think about what they want to present on.

Joshua will definitely give State of the Nuniverse, probably remotely.

I tried to get Tim W to come as a special guest to talk about the origins of VGA, but he demurred (I am still hoping Tim! Perhaps remote link, too?).

We have talked about a documentation update, pirate diplomacy, Rebel economics and economic destruction, plug ins and what the perfect AI for Planets Nu would look like, but nothing is definite.

If anyone has something they would like to see. Please make a request perhaps that will jostle one of presenters toward a decision.

For some reason my mail is not working and emails from NU are not being sent to me no matter how much I try. I will try a new email. The first I heard about this was a few days ago when Bondservant told me about this. I will see if I can clear my schedule and attend... ahem, truthfully, it is completely wife/family dependent ;-) Sounds like fun and and I look forward to the agenda.

I have not been to a planetscon before. However, for those of you who have also not been to one, I have been to an old "Rebel Space/ NetSpace" con before from and old Prodigy strategy space game and it was a blast. Well worth it.

The 2014 and 2015 PlanetsCon pages are done and waiting for authorization from the authors of the agenda I used as a basis (we need to keep the Copyright clean).
