Another race is trying to give me one of their ships.  I have a vessel there with 10 clans on it, but the code is not working.  Could it be because the ship he is giving me is cloaked?

I don't know if these codes at NU are case sensitive, but I think it should be lower case, "gsX".

What race are you btw, is it a normal number one or are you one of the last 2?

I assume you have fuel on board and all that good stuff.... not sure why else it would be failing, only explanation is incorrect race number or the case sensitive thing.

Yes, both ships must be uncloaked if they are of different players - even allies.

Oops, maybe not - I was thinking of transfering minerals, etc.

According to Donovan's:

"Ships can be handed over to another race by giving the ship a friendly code of "gsX". In this case X corresponds with the racenumber or -letter of the intended new owner: to give a ship to the Feds the friendly code must be "gs1", to give a ship to the Lizards it should be "gs2" and so on, "gsa" to give a ship to the Rebels and "gsb" to give a ship to the Colonies. The gsX friendly codes only work if the person giving the ship away has a registered version of VGA Planets.

For the ship to switch ownership, it has to be in the same position as a ship of the intended new owner, and the receiving ship must have at least one clan onboard. This clan will not be transferred, so multiple ships can be received by the same ship. Both the receiving ship and the ship that is given away may be cloaked. Since transferring cargo is handled before beamtransfers, it is possible to transfer a clan to the receiving ship and give away your ship(s) in the same turn.

Giving ships away happens in order of ship ID, from low to high. The ID of the ship that is given away determines the order. A ship that is given away using the gsX code will have it's mission reset to "exploration", but due to the host order of actions it will still be invisible to enemies if the ship was cloaked. The ship will also be able to move to it's waypoint while being given away, speed and waypoint are not reset."

Thanks everyone!

Still not sure why it is not working, unless it is the cloaked thing.  I am the colonies and the giving race is the birdmen.  We have walked through it using lowercase letters and he has quadruple checked the code.  I have a cobol ship with 10 clans at the location, he has a white falcon and medium frieghter at the scene.  It has us stumped.

We are going to try it again this turn with his ship uncloaked.

He is not a premium player, but is registered.

Does this happen to be a private game without the entire 11 race roster? In that case the race number to use is the number of that race as it's listed in the game. As in, if the game was created with only 4 races in it... and the crystals happen to be the third race in the list... then you'd use "gs3" to gift ships to them.

Thanks Kennyra

That solved the problem.  I just figured the numbers were static to race not position.  Thanks everyone life is good once again!
