Ion Storms & DecloakWrite Reply
Hi!

I would like to know in which cases ion storms decloak ships and in which not.
I already read the stuff on phost.de and on Donovan's. The best description was this one:

Ion storms and disturbances will cause cloaking systems to fail completely while within (i.e. starting their movement inside) the storm. Note that Ion storms decloak ships after the ion storms have moved - it is quite possible that a storm moves over a starship that was just outside the storm at the beginning of the turn, and decloaks it. It is also possible for a ship to be just inside an ion storm at the beginning of a turn and not be decloaked, because the storm moves away from it.

But it doesn't say, if this does apply to ships in open space only or also to ships starting from / waiting at planets. So, can someone tell me, if these ships will be decloaked or not:
  1. A cloaked ship waiting at a planet
  2. A cloaked ship moving from a planet into open space
  3. A cloaked ship moving from a planet to another planet
Cheers,
Nakor

AFAIK, in Tim host it doesn't matter if the ship is orbiting or is in open space before or after the movement so cases 1-3 are all the same.

So you can enter an ion storm cloaked if you started your movement outside of it, but can't leave it unless it moves away from you before your movement.

I believe it only depends on your position relative to the ion storm BEFORE the ship movement and AFTER the ion storm movement. If you are inside the storm during that time, you will be decloaked- unless your ship is a Resolute or Dark Wing with advanced cloaking.

Btw. I had many cloaked ships in ion storms, but never got any messages about the cloaking device failing. This isn't easy to figure out from the starmap as the ship position before the movement counts...
Anybody got messages from ion storms? How about stronger ones dragging ship?

Well, it just happened to me ;)

In Rebirth 3, look at ship ID 325.

The probe was on a planet with an Ion Storm, ready to jump (HYP) and it got smacked by the Ion Storm. The probe still lives but it shouldn't, the funniest things are:

Damage is 154% - but not destroyed. Borg can handle the heat better than Lizards LOL
Crew is now 96/6 - The Borg assimilate an ion storm!
Warp was MINUS 5 - The borg experimenting with time travel?

From: Cerveza 325 ID#325
Our ship is caught in Ion Storm ID#21 We have been pulled 27 LY off course. Damage Taken: 27 Crew Killed : 154 Shields are down.

Well, they say "Strange things happen in Ion Storms... "

This is now fixed and I'm sorry to say your ship is now dead Figak.    :)
