Is there a way to quickly reset custom colors on planets?
I took over a game and my predecessor seems to have had some sort of color code system on almost every planet.
Wich is frankly just confusing , especially since he colored in all of his own planets (using 3 colors) and kept them colored even when he lost them :)
So to make sense of the map I basically need to scroll through every planets , edit the notes and clear the custom color....
There has to be a quicker way to do this....

I have to agree with @Siggi. There needs to be TWO global reset options. One to reset all the colors, and another to erase all the notes.

Also needs a common sense advisor. As in if you decide to set all your own planets to a different color there should be a common sense advisor to tell you that THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO POINT IN IT!!!!

Also this is not the first time I see people putting notes on the planets that tell you what race and tax% is on there.
Again your common sense advisor should jump in and tell you that you don't need a note to tell you what's on the planet. IT'S ENOUGH TO CLICK ON THE DAMN PLANET.
Not even clicking , you can hover over them to see that info.

Sigh.....venting done. Just annoyed after spending that much time deleting notes and changing colors.

Likewise, I have had to put up with notes written in a language I was unable to understand.

I actually make a lot of notes/colorings similar to that. Feels useful to me, but I'm fairly new to the game so maybe someone can suggest a better way...

When I discover a new planet, on the same turn I drop colonists and supplies, add a note, and change the planet color. A typical note would be:

TM $$$
needs 3000 col + sup

The TM means that the planet is a good source of tritanium and molybdenum. The $$$ means natives will yield a lot of mc. (Single $ is more common, for a planet that is a decent source of mc.)

The part about needs 3000 col is an estimate of how many colonists are needed to fully take advantage of this planet, perhaps because there are enough insectoid unity natives to get 3000 mc/turn. I don't specify a number for sup(plies) because 50-100 is always sufficient.

If my notes include a "needs" line then I color the planet green. If there's no "needs" line, then bases are orange, amazing planets (like the example above) are purple, useless planets are blue, and most planets are yellow.

This notes/coloring scheme makes it easier to plan freighter routes, which is how I spend most of my time in the first 30 turns. After the ship limit (old PBP system), I completely change the coloring scheme to focus on the ship queue rather than minerals and mc.

Yes, I need to clear my notes and colors when a planet is captured. I also have the same problem when one of my ships is destroyed, and the notes end up on the next ship to take that ID. I give my ships notes about things that could be seen by clicking on a ship, but when planning strategy over a map section with 20 ships in it, I need a way to get at that information without opening 20 separate ship windows.

I imagine that a plugin could do this job better than my manual notes/coloring system. If such a plugin exists, I am not yet aware of it.

@Eric I'm not really criticizing that approach.
If it works for you and helps you then great :)

I'm simply annoyed that there's no way of resetting it if you drop/resign and another player takes over.

Yes, I do rather pity anyone that picks up one of my games, if ever I should drop one. I use a multi-tiered system as Borg and another, lesser system as any other race. My rather cryptic coded notes would also make entertaining reading.

As plugins go, one to clear out colors and notes ought to be a fairly simple one to code.

I really despise colouring my planets because sometimes I lose ownership and my assigned colour hides that fact from me. I've now switched to colouring planets that DON'T need attention as they are usually the least likely to be lost. I'm then using the colours to denote whether they require terraforming. Also, since more worlds will require attention than those that finish, it is much less work to Colour planets that are 'finished'.

The recent updates to the Planetary Management mod which display numeral values instead of multiple rings to denote quantities is an improvement, but what I think would be best is actually a mix of both.

What I really want is coloured rings around the planet like the quantities displays in Map Tools, but the radius of the circle denoting quantity instead of multiple rings. Then have numerals denoting the exact available, the + per turn, and the turns remaining to mine (algorithm already exists in PM mod) in the same colour near the coloured rings... or simply hover over to pop-up the numerals.

The script I'm working on will involve planning multiple turns in co-operation with Allies, and I'll be creating an alternative method to colour all things to communicate things between allies. Like adding an out-of-fuel symbol instead of messages to allies.

I rarely read my messages... I'm all about doing everything from the Starmap.

FYI, I just added a button for this in my custom color mod v2.2:
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/2591-color-coding-for-planets-nu

Check under the settings screen for a new button "reset all note colors to blank". If you like this, but don't want to run the color mod part, there is a button to disable that functionality in the settings screen too.
