LFM works great to build fighters (provided you have that ability)...But what if you don't want to make a whole load of them?  Back in the original daze, I used to have various calc spreadsheets for this, so I dug one of them out for use in my current game...If you need 10 fighters, just find that line and the requirements are done for you.

Any advice on using lfm with an ally?

The explanation in Donovan's does not seem to apply to this version of planets.  Or at least, I followed his instructions and had no result.

It should and it did. What kind of alliance are we talking about? You would need a full alliance and I am not sure if shared intel level is enough since the latest upgrade of alliances. It does not work with safe passage alliances.

Also, did your ally leave enough materiel on the surface for lfm to work?

I could not get it to work with any combination.

And yes the planet has the supplies.

That is strange. It used to work but that was weeks ago I last tried it (with allies better than safe passage). Strange though, my ally has not said anything yet when he is on lfm over my planets. He may not have checked it out though, I will try to trace this later.

Should work just like this... if it does not then it is a bug:

The code "lfm" can be used over a planet that has you set as an ally, or at least if an official alliance is offered through the ship alliance friendly code by the player who's planet will supply the resources. To be able to use the "lfm" friendly code over an allied planet, the alliance does not have to be complete. As long as the races owning the planet has offered an alliance the "lfm" friendly code will work. The

If for example the Rebels want to build fighters over a Birdmen planet, only the Birdmen have to set an alliance with the Rebels. The Rebels don't necessarily need to ally the Birdmen for this to work. Once an alliance has been offered, the planet's friendly code does not have to be "lfm". It is impossible to use the "lfm" friendly code to beam up resources to build fighters with from enemy planets, even when both the planet's and the ship's friendly code are "lfm". The "lfm" friendly code will not work over unowned planets.

I have a "Share intel" alliance with another player and I am not able to lfm from him. Just recently he offered a full alliance so I have set one of my ships to lfm, we'll see what happens when the next host runs.

I'd probably just do it a bit different anyway.

Have the Gemini set to "btf" and just manually transfer the minerals to the ship from an LDSF or something.

That way you get the fighters on your carriers asap... or better yet, just give him the planet :)

over an allied planet you may need to set your Friendly Code to match the planet.

Yeah, i was just thinking you could do it manually by bringing up the minerals onto the ship.  Once you had them on the ship in the appropriate quantities your ship would make the fighters.

either way it sounds like you have to have offered a full alliance to the owner of the Gemini, if that does not work then it is a bug.

I did this extensively in an earlier game (March - May).  We had ships and planet with fcode lfm.  The biggest problem was that the one clan I was keeping on board my ships to facilitate ship transfers would disappear right after the first build fighters.  I wrote it up as a bug, not sure if it's ever been fixed.  We used this under the old "full alliance".

I owned a ship over a half-allied planet. Nothing was beamed up. It occurs to me that there may not have been sufficient materials on that planet (I didn't check), would it have beamed up partial materials?

I think it will only beam up materials if there are enough for at least 1 fighter, but not 100% sure.  That's what would make sense at least.

I can asure you that lfm works over allied planet. Working each turn over my planets with my colonist ally and with a robot ally over another ally planet. It stoped working when the new alliance system was set, but it started working again when we upgraded from share intel to full alliance.

 You don't need to match friendlys but it doesn't work if both player don't have the full alliance set. It doesn't work with share intel or with a half alliance.

VPA used to have a left-right arrow widget so you could load fighter materials appropriately.

lfm doesn't works... I try use several times. Ships with manual mineral loads works ok, ships with lfm don't works (all ships over my starbase)

Your ship needs at least 1kt of fuel to load the minerals.
