does any one know if Tim (Original author) still registers the Game ?

I wouldn't mind setting up a local game here but only have one registered copy of planets
and none of the boys will play unregistered (5 sons).
They don't want to play online until they learn the game :( (bloody typical)

Somewhere in my archives I even have a registered copy of a BBS VGA planets control software
been so long not even sure of the name of the software (I seem to remember it making a web page as well but never used that feature just ran it on my BBS 20 odd years ago)

hmmmm thinks maybe I should dig out my copy's of BRE, LORD, TAL, Arrowbridge and give them a real blast from the past :)
looks at over 500 dvd's and cd's in archive and thinks later (no index)

I'm sure Tim is still willing to get paid $20 or whatever for a registered copy.. although I emailed him like 9 years ago saying that I lost my Registered winplan copy... which was true, and Tim just gave me some kind of unlock code.  The two times I've emailed Tim he's turned out to be a very agreeable person, o who knws he might just give you registered copies provded you signup for starcube or whatever it's called.

Eitherway, I don't believe there is a need for you to get any more than one registered copy of planets provided the following;

1)  Each player plays on the same computer.
2)  Each player submits their .trn files from the same maketurn.exe run.

Anything outside of that will probably get the tim continuum up in arms.

Now if you want to get fancy and have each player read and write to the same shared network drive that's probably okay as well, the main issue is that the turns must all be from the same maketurn.exe run.

Cool :)
Will drop him a message though $20 is a bit steep

I've never used winplan lol
I started with the dos version playing on a $6000 386dx25 with 8 meg of ram and 80meg hdd (had to order HDD special) Dos 6.22 and windows 3.11
funny enough dos VGA Planets still plays on XP no issues

I've tried heaps of different ways to get one copy to play more then one player in the game but always seem to set off the Tim continuum
Might have another crack today
It's raining here and nothing better to do

I know it works with dosplan 100%.  If they're all running from multiple computers it won't work.. but if you hot seat it and run maketurn.exe at the same time, then run host it should work.  I've done it many times, with friends in live games and also playng multi-race training scenarios for myself.

Another option would be to start a private game here, that way they don't have to embarrass themselves with their n00bness.

Will try hot seat :)
My work was trying to get it on different PC's I'm a notoriously slow player
But could setup a game on one of my browser machines so I don't lose my machine

Man your talking to the converted here
I've already tried to get them on here for a private game
But since Mule's come to me for stubbornness lessons I can't really fault them there
(Well I can but it does no good lol)

Theres a 32bit version of winplan in development. We really should ask Tim if that version could be released as Open Source and perhaps THost aswell. Just a donation limit, of lets say 2000$ and if it gets reached, VPL will become free and Open Source xD

I'm not sure, but i think, if you wanna play with more players on one Winplan version, you have to put the same fizz.bin in each game directory.
But i remember, that if you play all in the same directory it works without problems (just use passwords, if you don't trust each other xD)

Bummer if he has a 32 bit version in development then it is unlikly he'll do much of a set deal.

Playing all in one folder works fine :)
but the expected complainants about how slow I do my turn ave surfaced LOL
and have to admit I sort of feel like I'm breaking the rules if you know what I mean

Well will just have to wait until Tim responds to my email and see what the damage will be

Tim just gave the WinPlan source to someone, who translate it into .net atm with a couple of guys. They released the beta. So, Tim doesn't care much about VPL 3.x atm

Cyborg, why not just play a private game here at Nu?  Its free and its accessible from any computer without any special software.

The 32 bit version is authored by a volenteer "Huke Stenzel"  who has posted it on rcworld.de I have been using it and  playing in a beta test game on that site. http://rcworld.de

As I have no 32 bit OS computers anymore I has stoped playing the non web based VGAP. The Win32 client works for me on my 64bit OS computers. There are still a few bugs but overall the latest version is very playable.

Cyborg,

"Huke Stenzel" is "Hauke Stenzel" from Germany.

He did the original conversion from 16 bits to 32 bits and I help him with the the fixing of bugs.

We currently have Two 32 bit applications. The first is the original with bug fixes where needed. The second one (done by me) is the original with (experimental) upgrades and improvements of exisiting functionality.

With an old installation of a full version and a new 32-bit executable from our side you should be able to play.

Keep in mind that although it is very (very) stable it has not been fully tested yet. For that we need more test players outside the very small group we have currently. But to get to know the game it should work.

Drop me a line if you are interested in receiving the 32-bit version.
