Re Horwasp accelerators. How do they work? I launched one to a point in space. Once stationary, I launched a nest at it with the way point set at the accelerator, then a longer way point (using shift key) to make a planet the final destination. The nest went to the accelerator at w6, finished a turn at the accelerator. The next turn I had expected it to jump to w9 and continue on to the planet. It stayed at w6. What did I do wrong?

I think you're supposed to set the waypoint at the planet, and 'drive' the ship you want accelerated through it, not to it.

It won't change the warp setting, just the distance travelled.

it goes in at warp 6, covering 36 LY/turn.

it comes out at warp 6, covering 54 Ly/turn.

I...think.

@razorback. Not certain that I understand you. You can't move accelerators once launched. Pointing and shooting through them would severely limit their use as most horwasp ships are point-and-shoot and cannot steer. Making the accelerator the first way point opens the option for a second way point past it.

@furey. I thought accelerators increased W factor by 50%. ei. w6 to w9, not 36ly/trn to 54ly/trn.

@Snork:

No, accelerators increase the DISTANCE TRAVELED per turn 50% as per your 36ly/trn - 56ly/turn illustration. This is an important point, as at warp 9 they would travel 81ly/trn. They do not!

Accelerators are one of the non-steerables? Still getting a handle on the race myself.

What about sequence of events? Set an accelerator to travel to the world you intend to launch the ship from, then time your launch to coincide with it's arrival?

All Right i thought the same thing on Accelerators, and its a Display thing that will get looked at.

NOW it did not state that they could not be Towed. But it acts that way a Soldier or Hive could not move one.

So Once Launch that is where your going have that thing. And worry about defenses and such.

Keeping that in mind if its On a world that your going send Pods every turn from you make it 1 Warp Jump out in a direction you want 70% the pods to go and that is where its Launch target is.

If going share it between a couple worlds you try set it so it is the 2nd turn away from all them if you can.

When the Pod hits it DO not be surprise if it shows you trying to target a nest rather than Accelerator it still works. You Target the location and world after that. If you went straight from world to target and used Accelerator, you will Notice the Fuel/Distance time savings.

I DO dislike the Cost of the things not to be Towed even by a Hive. Has not came back if bug/ Or Game Balance for the Hive.

Otherwise they are supposed to update the Docs with a Example Cause trust me i read it the same way expecting see warp 9 on the Pod rather than 6 afterwards.

Joshua wrote:

"Accelerator
An interstellar structure which is launched to a point in space. It will increase the speed of outgoing pods that travel through it by 50%."

So, if the speed was 36 lys per turn, the increase would be 18 lys per turn for a total of 54 lys per turn.

Joshua never said it increases the warp setting by 50%.

warp setting 1 - speed is 1
warp setting 2 - speed is 4
warp setting 3 - speed is 9
etc.

Don't confuse warp setting with speed.

--------------------------------------------------

Question: Do the ships end their turn at the Accelerator and start again next turn? In other words, could you have 5 ships arrive at the accelerator from 5 different planets, and have them all leave together in one group next turn?

If so, this group would be hugely powerful. You can pick off a brood with a big ship. But, 5 broods in one group will cost you a large ship or a star base.

Yup. It traveled 53.9ly.

Thanks for the clarification.

@Mjs68508,

The warp/distance information is in the navigation page.

> Do the ships end their turn at the Accelerator and start again next turn?

Yes. The Accelerator must be a waypoint for it to make the pod go faster.

Most ships only have one waypoint. If you send nests or stingers, etc. to the accelerator from 5 different worlds, you would have to reset them again in order for them to leave together as one. Are you saying you can do this?

@Dragondejhi,

I believe you're missing something. The waypoint displayed on a starship is the final waypoint, but it's possible to set a complex route, where the starship goes through multiple waypoints.

This process is described in the Navigation page.

You set The accelerator as a waypoint, hold down the shift key, and then set the planet as the next waypoint just like you would do with a regular ship. They will go to the Accelerator and end their turn. Next turn they leave together. Just confirmed it in a blitz game. The Accelerator should be renamed the conglomerater.

Now, the question is, "Do you even need an Accelerator?" Could you do the same thing simply using the multiple waypoint mechanism (shift key)?

Either way, grouping broods, stingers, and jackers is powerful.

No. The pods need the Accelerator to turn.

Oh okay Whisperer. Yes, I do this all the time in normal games, I just didn't know you could do that with Horwasp ships. In fact if you had multiple ships arrive at different turns, you can just have a few move around a little until they arrive at the same time? This makes the accelerator much more practical. I have not built one yet because I sent ships in different dirrections and this hunk of metal in space would not be useful very much for the costs. It still limits one direction, but much more practical if you can set multiple waypoints.

But is the acceleration only good for that 1 turn after it goes through it? Or for the rest of it's journey?

So in the end, instead of your pods moving at W6, you are moving at about W7.5 ? Nice. But maybe not as useful as I had hoped... Am I getting this wrong?

it let pods move 54 ly if they travel at warp 6. Someone set an accelerator as waypoint for 81 ly travel?

O.K., just confirmed. The game WILL allow you to make multiple waypoints for HIVE (and I presume the Soldier). It WILL NOT allow you to make multiple waypoints for the other ships, unless you have an Accelerator. Accelerators are now very, very important and powerful. (multiple way points vis-a-vis the SHIFT key)

Oh good, glad you confirmed. I have been trying to set multiple waypoints with my pods for the last half hour. I kept telling myself.. "Well, they keep saying this will work????" But it didn't. at least I wasn't crazier then normal....

But this now means that if launch towards the accelerator, they must arrive at exactly the same time to be grouped together. And, it is only 18 ly's advantage. Good, but not too powerfull. Unless the acceleration last more then just one turn. Does it?

The acceleration lasts until the final waypoint. I have verified that through one accelerator.

I have NOT verified the W9 acceleration, but the W6 and W7 acceleration has been verified.

They just have to arrive on the same turn to all leave together the next turn. If 6 broods go separately, they can be killed individually by Gorbies with no Gorbie losses. If they travel in a single group and are attacked by a Gorbie, it will kill a couple and die. If 2 Gorbies attack the group, they will kill 4 and both will die. If 3 or more Gorbies attack the group, the group will be destroyed and 2 Gorbies will die. The Empire will get a few pbp's, not even enough to build 1 Gorbie. The Horwasp can rebuild the 6 broods next turn. In fact, he could have already built another 6 broods that are now on their way.

Thanks for all the input. I'm playing Horwasps in a game, but I'm still figuring out how it's all supposed to work myself.
