RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
Commodore Bluejay wakes with a jolt.  His heart skips a beat as memories of places he's never been to and of things he didn't do or witness flood into his mind. Ship specs flash before his eyes.  Explosions and screams ring in his ears,  fingers and toes involuntarily quiver as battles are re-enacted, dozens, hundreds, thousands in a single synapse.

An old scar on the back of his left hand reopens, and drips a single drop of blood.

The beauty lying next to Bluejay stirs.  Somehow he vaguely remembers her name to be Lina, and of a past lesson learned the hard way.  This memory dooms her, she doesn't know that's she's about to be a passenger on a old MDSF preparing for departure.

Sitting at an old desk in a cold room on a small blue planet far far away, the Controller smiles. Download Complete.

Controller and Commodore Bluejay think the same thought, at the same time: "Game On".

Sagittarius sector, Colonial Flagship "Shabranigdo", Main Bridge.

"Infiltration complete, sir! I just received word on it."

Ensign Angelina's pretty face held a special prideful glow when she reported the news to Rear Admiral Mentar.

"I still can't believe you let your little sister do that, Lina. They're birds, for crying out loud. Easily hurt and chirping extremely loudly when angered, which happens to be pretty much all the time. And even once we're done here, we're not going to touch down in the Aries sector. Word is that Tristan_Mo will take command of our forces there."

"THE Tristan_Mo, sir?"

"The very same, Lina. The famous master of the many many first turns, who knows to pick starting positions veeeeeeery carefully. I guess that he finally found an agreeable start worthy of his attention. Good for our fleet."

"Well, with the illustrious convergence of so many famous military geniuses, we need any edge we can get."

"So true, Lina. So true. So let's hope that the intelligence corps trained your little sis very well. I plan to keep a careful eye on her, a VERY careful eye. Weekly reports on my desk, holopic or video. By the way... you wouldn't happen to know why there's been a data corruption in our mainframe on her personal data, would you?"

"R...really, sir? Haua... how very strange indeed... ah... I'll look into it personally."

(Once my photoshop is finished. No way I'll allow him to... to LEER at her like he... he always does)

Hey Guys.

It looks like the game was waiting for me.  I actually didn't get an invite, and only found out about the game when DM emailed me asking if i will be playing.  I apologize if I delayed the start, but I honestly didn't know.  I am glad it started though.  I was going to decline anyway.  Ever since I got back from my deployment the life has been in nonstop motion.  Looking for work while working full time and reconnecting with family.  I am in only one game right now and am trying to give that one up.  there is no way I could have played this on the level this would deserve given my time constraints.   again, sorry for the delay and I wish you all luck.  Hope the pirates win of course :)

4th inter-cluster championship descends on the Aries cluster

The 4th inter-cluster championship for command supremacy over the races of the echocluster has begun. Representatives of the 11 races have arrived in the Aries system at the as yet hidden locations. The events, as you know, are chaired by the Leader of the Galactic Senate, Rear-Admiral Joshua of the birds. The rules of the event has continued with last tournaments change, allowing the races to choose one full ally, but still there can be only one.

What makes this event of particular interest is the large percentage of Canadian supreme commanders in the event. There was some question of bias in the selection committee and some not so subtle threats by the Fascists commander. The Federation commander was overheard asking a by-stander "Whats a Canadian?" While the Lizard commander responded to our question, "G&& DA&*^#D Canadians! I Swear its that Canadian BORG Assimilated them all!".

Crisis on Tribble homeworld!

Orion trade syndicate calls for "trade" summit on planet Limball; Races suspicious of quotation.

CRISIS IN TRIBBLE SYSTEM

Borg have infested the Tribble homeworld. Our investigative reporters have learned that a damaged borg probe, a B200 CLASS PROBE, wandered into the Tribble system this morning. The probe's sensor system had been malfunctioning and from our decryption of the transmission from the probe we have determined that the probe thought the planet inhabitted with a humanoid like race.

The borg made planetfall at 12:09 cluster standard time. The borg proceeded to assimilate a hive of Tribbles before realizing their error.

Borg Tribble

The Tribble borg, or Triborg, have begun assimilating their own kind. The sheer number of Tribble minds, in their simplicity threaten to overwhelm the collective mind. Already, Borg drones on other planets have begun to gorge themselves on the local grain.

More to come as this develops...

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
*Drone #041* Initial scan of Aries Sector completed. 11 lifeforms detected, several of which display sentient behaviour.

*The Collective* Detailed analysis of identified lifeforms requested.

*Drone #041* 8 of the identified entities are standard carbon based lifeforms, suitable for assimilation. One entity appear to be a form of rock-based lifeform, though sentience has not yet been detected. The final "lifeform" is an metal based sentience, based on technology somewhat inferior to the basic borg implant. The final lifeform is something called a Tribble...

*The Collective* Explain Tribble.

*Drone #041* One of the systems assimilated during the expansion phase contained a non-sentient lifeform, which would not normally have been assimilated, but one of the creatures crawled into an empty assimilation chamber, and once the process was complete, it started assimilating its kindred. The system has been cut of from the Collective.

*The Collective*
Threat assessment on other sentient lifeforms requested.

*Drone #041* Initial encounters with the carbon based lifeforms shows a threat level similar to the servitor races encountered in other sectors, which is minimal. Note that one of the carbon based lifeforms appear to have constructed a small armada of capital ships.

*The Collective* Cost of threat removal?

*Drone #041*
Complete assimilation of the carbon based lifeform that exhibits aggressive behaviour would require additional resources for pacifier cube ships, which would reduce the expansion rate of the Collective by 22% over the next 10 months.

*The Collective*
Threat assessment of non-carbon based lifeforms requested.

*Drone #041* The metal based sentience are based on inferior technology, and are not cause for concern. The rock-based lifeform has yet to show higher sentience, and studies shows that it often enters a dormant state. One of the starships used by this lifeform has been boarded and the crew assimilated. The cultural distinctiveness of the rock based lifeforms are are being added to our own, and a complete map of the small cluster currently occupied by this lifeform is being rendered.

*The Collective*
Continue the current expansion plans, and begin the complete assimilation of the rock-based servitor race.

I've got to admit that Jobo's diplomacy feels much more Borg-traditional compared to what Andy44 is doing in Sagittarius ;)

Then again, if he manages to moon the entire sector upfront and then manages to pull it off, he'll gain a lot more bragging rights...

Chamber of Commerce. Routine meeting of the Council of the Mediterranean Space Traders. Anonymous representatives of leading merchant families of the Mediterranean Sector, hidden behind masks and hoods, meets periodically in order to monitor the interests of the Commercial Republic. The Mediterranean Space Traders like ancient Earth civilizations as the Phoenicians, the Crown of Aragon and the Republic of Venice, all bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, are clear examples of how commercial interests are driving expansion of an state.

"Gentlemen, our scouts have discovered a new sector in which could thrive our business..."
A murmur of approval appears in the Chamber of Commerce. Wealth, prosperity, expansion ... are concepts in the minds of members of the Secret Council.
"We were able to establish a colony on one of the planets from which we will expand our interests..."
Again, satisfaction gestures are felt in the room.
"But not everything will be good news, gentlemen..."
Surprise, stupefaction and anger arise from the great lords.
"We're not the only ones who have directed attention to that particular sector"
"And who are the opponents?" A proud and firm voice rises from a chorus of voices.
"We would take precautions, gentlemen" spokesman argues. "After centuries of expansion, we have contacted thousands of civilizations. Some have been warlike and instead others have shown open to join our ranks."
Memories of battles, victories and defeats are present in the minds of the members of the Council "
"As I said ... There is cause for concern ..." Spokesman insists, again interrupted by the sound of voices.
"The natives of the sector will not be much problem. They will be source of minerals, jewelry, food and slaves."
"On the other hand, we know than there are: reptilians, rebels, imperials, federals, fascists, birdmen..."
"We have been able to face those threats! Our battle cruisers will do it!" another voice interrupted.
Again the spokesman conciliatory attempts to keep the attention of those present: "Apparently we receive worrying reports of rival superiority..."
Doubt, fear and concern is starting to show in the air.
"Superiority in weapons ... maybe, but not in speed or camouflage" says someone who had remained in the background. "And remember... everyone has a price...!"

"Mylord, a transmission of our ambassador from the Lady Royal Station" announces a communications officer to the leaders of the Mediterranean Council Space Traders.
"Hmmm ... well, pass it to the main screen" ordered one of the great lords of the Council and heading to the other, comments: "It says than it's not good mix business and pleasure ... although have a good number of trade centers such as those located in the Lady Royal ships, are a good source of income as well as a mobile platform for our agents and diplomats! "
"That's right, it's ideal meeting places for business as lucrative as: species, metals, jewelry, exotic animals, restoration, houses of pleasure and of course...slaves. That will improve our economy as well as increase our reputation among the local population of the system" added another man rubbing hands vigorously.
"Although slavery, it seems, has been a source of friction with other races" objects a cautious voice.
"Oh!,  perhaps the officers of those races would be join to our ranks if they knew the pleasures provided by our civilization..." perceptively argues a great lord. A murmur of approval arises from the Council.
"Yes, Lady Royal is a great ship! ... perhaps too expensive high energy requirements but enough fuel tanks to maintain it!"
"Enough fuel cargo to those duties and for "other" uses that we are given to those ships..." said a voice that usually remains in the background in the meetings.
Gestures of complicity and the sound of laughter spreads among the lords.
"Mylord, the transmission ..." timidly said the communications officer.

Re Fascist drop:
I'd like to take credit, but he dropped all 8 of his games so real life must have interfered.

He was in a tough spot.   I build 8 Resolutes in the first 9 turns and moved most in one direction. Unfortunately for both of us it was into his space.   I watched and gathered info for a while until he eventually found one of my (few) planets.  He pinged me on turn 10 or 11 and I replied with something like ' I've calculated that I can't kill you cleanly'.   I told him about the planets and ships I knew about, and I told him the border I wanted.   He accepted.

On his other side is either Robots or Colonies.  If Colonies then he was sandwiched between the top 2 military scores at turn 10.  If Robots he's still in a tough spot.  Whatever plans he had must have been discarded.

I imagine he would have continued if he could have.

Sun Tsu says to defeat an opponent in combat is good, to defeat him without combat is better.  I came close if you twist the facts a little.

If someone joins a champ game he is very motivated and dropping without any explanation indicates a very bad RL issue (accident or so). In 3 out of 4 champ games 1 drop of this kind occured so I calculate a probability of nearly 7% that a RL catastrophy will happen within the next 6 months if you join a champ game. This is much more than average. I suggest to add a warning to the invitations.

Btw, whats going on in this Champs game? Everyone is special silent. The Borg seems to spread and noone is stopping him while it seems that Feds and Privs are battling with each other according to the score (ships and planets exchanges) and Lizards get hit on the head by the Robots according to some strange pictures...

So where is the big map with the racelocations and where are the intrigue forum messages like in Sagittarius? Where's the ingame leaks about the alliances and battles?

RNN really should report some updates! Or have all already given up facing the Borg-Gorilla?

Severe ion storm activity disrupts news network connection

Fascists driven from aries cluster by Triborg

Rebel and borg ships continue combat over planets across the cluster

Privateer and Federation war continues while ion storm threatens region

Preemptive lizard strike into robot space, robots strike back.

Triborg spread to fascist system

Our news desk has learned that the borg have cut off the Triborg from their collective mind and have resumed assimilation of the aries cluster. We have learned that the Triborg have assimilated the crashed borg probe and have escaped off their planet, entering into the fascists territory. While the Triborg seem to have no interest in assimilating other [inferior] races, we have learned that some primal urge has driven the Triborg to hunt and destroy Fascist assets. On approximately the 18th month of the aries inter-cluster championship, the Triborg landed on the Fascists homeworld in the Botox cluster.

While the normally small probe hold only a contingent of 2000 borg drones, the Triborg are much smaller and multiply quickly. Our resident medical droid had this to say on the Triborg "Tribbles, for those who don't know, are born pregnant. On assimilation, the Triborg essentially acts as a borg maturation chamber where each generation of Triborg bring into being a new fully developed and assimilated Triborg. The maturation technology has, in fact, accelerated development of the Tribble birthing process. Given the small size of the Triborg and the fact that Triborg feed off the energy systems of assimilated ships, I estimate that approximately 10 million Triborg arrived to a surprised Fascist neighbourhood."

Borg Tribble

In light of this emergency, the Fascist high council has withdrawn all available military forces to destroy the Triborg origin world. On the 22nd month of the aries conflict the Fascist armada, in secret, struck and destroyed the planet on which the Triborg resided. It is unclear at this time of the fate of the Fascsist homeworld, nor is it clear at this time how many Triborg still exist off world. It is clear, due to the derilict nature of some Fascist warships that the Triborg have infested at least some of the Fascist fleet ships.

Hitchhikers guide to the Aries cluster - episode 2

In the last episode we took a look at the Cylon homeworld. We saw relaxed Cylons with much spare time to play tag with little Lizards. The scenery looked a bit chaotic but also much endearing.
In this episode we visit the Borg origin. Regarding the ship positioning we find confirmed the Borg love for symmetry and the big cohesiveness of the collective. Undoubtedly a most impressive sight and a must-see of the Aries cluster.

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
Birdman summary so far:

I'm not in any battles right now (famous last words) so there's some harmless details from the first 20 turns I can share.  I knew I was in over my head playing the game so I figured I'd take risks and implement some unexpected strategies.

1.      I'm at 4'oclock on the map.  I immediately told EE the location of my HW and asked for info about a cluster to the south, or alternately, to the north.  I felt EE would find out eventually so the reward (info and good-will) outweighs the risk.

2.      HW engine tech stayed at 7 till maybe turn 12.  There are a few planets within 49ly so a warp7 LDSF is sufficient.

3.      I taxed my own clans to 70 whenever happiness was 100.

4.      Followed the LDSF with 8 Resolutes.  I was the leader in military score for a while and one hoped for side-effect was that this caused a defensive re-action by players all over the board. I think only EE knew where I was for a long time.

5.      At around turn 10 EE surprised me and told me he is to my north, suggested a nice northern border, and pointed out a Humanoid-Unity planet that was ignoring.

6.      Around 6 of my Resolutes had gone south at warp 7.   I only dropped clans on the closest ring of planets, then continued or held station without dropping clans.

7.      Worst case scenario for me is to have Robots, Crystal or Fascist to my south.   A Resolute noticed a north-bound D7.  For a few turns I debated what to do.   He eventually got to my inner ring of planets and said hello.

8.      In the return message I bluffed a bit, but included enough facts that he agreed to the border I demanded.  I was settling in for a post-queue attack when he dropped.

9.   Surged (still mostly at warp 7) into Fascist turf to get there before Borg.  Killed some Borg with help from Colonies.

10.   I admit I lost 3 ships to a dropped player :(  A Swift stumbled into a Ill-Wind, a Resolute was popped, and I accidentally sent an uncloaked Swift to a known Vic location.

12.   Working on capturing as many Fascist ships as I can.

13.   My slice of the pie is Borg-free.

14.   Emork's ownership of the queue is like nothing I've experienced before.   Played against Dines once, he was good too.

15.   Turn 40 and I have zero PBP.  Embarrassing.

Other activities that may or may not be happening:

Jomiii battled early with Fed.   Fed on the ropes.

Emork is slowly re-forging Forger (pun intended).

Everyone is killing Borg.

Someone (Borg?) was killing Crystal ships early.

Two turns ago it looks like 2 Virgos and 2 Cubes died.  There was a mixed fleet of many races killing remaining Borg cube.  Scoreboard might tell us that Jomiii ended up owing the 3rd Cube.

An interesting insight, Bluejay! Good move to try uncommon strategies if you feel as an underdog. However, so many w7-Resolutes?
Thx for honorable mentioning me in point 14. Let me add that "queue ownership" is a slightly misleading term. Up to now it's just pure economics and efficient warfare. We Lizards like and need to have many ships. Some other races, too. If you subtract the 30 hissers we have in foreign empires we have an equal ship count with e.g. the Rebels.

Now something for the spectators. We hope it is ok for all inhabitants of the Aries sector to publish the intial map. It's subject in Lizard elementary schools so we guess no secret.

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
Though more useful than a hisser, you must account for the fact that I have a number of falcons.  Which are great in warfare against the borg, but are much less so against other races.
So i don't know if i'd put myself on par with you, but the lizards inflated ship count may be due, somewhat, to races feeding them ships, maybe temporarily, I'm not sure what their agreement is :P

But needless, a number of lizard gorbies have been spotted.

Its quite an interesting game actually, as long as everyone is having fun.  Its quite intense, but i think its a little relaxed at the same time.  So far, everyone seems civil to each other in here.

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
As the following was a public message sent in a private way I answer in the forum to keep the interested entertained.

----

Message from the Robots (Forger)

It would appear that while everybody was focused on the Borg the Lizards have made a pact with the Evil Empire to obtain most or all of their Gorbies with the intention of becoming Emperor. I have seen at least 4 possibly five Gorbies in Lizard hands which tells me based on the current scoring that the Evil Empire exists only to provide the Lizards with large ships.

This is a public service announcement.

----

First of all, Lizards admit that our secret plan is totally revealed. We don't know how the Robots managed to break our security measures but now it seems futile to furthermore deny that we INDEED entered this sector "with the intention of becoming Emperor". So, yes & true & bad and if the majority of the Aries peoples think this is not appropriate then we give up that plan. ;)

Secondly, we advise the Robotic leader to improve his military and general score analysis algorithms. Remember to look up turn 44 in the time machine after the game to see how wrong this analysis was. Not to speak about the nearly insulting intimation that Lizards fly towards the Robots with ships that were not built completly and solely with Lizard resources.

Lastly we want to point out the most interesting fact of this message - it's timing. The mentioned Gorbies are known to the Robots since about 10 turns. It seems that the noble Rebellion has not only sent carriers but recently also propaganda specialists for assistance.

Forger, despite of that we sincerely hope that you recieve some moralic support now, so that your operation "wet pants" makes progress. Of course it's kind of fun to frighten 2 Instrumentalities, 2 Golems and 2 Rushes for ages with 1 Gorbie, 1 T-Rex and 1 Merlin. But the time is near when all jokes about the brave Robotic captains are made up, repeated and have become Lizard sayings. You don't want to bore my crews to death, or? Hey, that would be too cruel! :(

Yours, Emork the Lizard King

Triborg seize control of 2 rush class heavy carriers

Our news desk has now learned that on the 34th month of the aries inter cluster tournament, the TRIBORG had entered into the aries sector. The Triborg entered undetected using an assimilated D7 Coldpain Class Cruiser, entering the cluster from a northern vantage into rebel territory. We have learned that the Triborg, on the 35th month of the tournament, attacked two un-crewed rush class heavy carriers at a primary ship building facility in the rebel territory. The carriers took minimal damage, but were boarded and seized by the Triborg.

Rush attack

While un-crewed; the ship was undergoing a tour by a number of delegates amoung which were two Jedi. As far as this news desk can tell the jedi were over whelmed by the sheer number of triborg invading the ship and fell in combat and were assimilated. The triborg have since evolved to a hybrid triborg-jedi

Triborg Jedi

Since this assimilation the two rush class heavy carriers have headed towards, what we suppose they detected as, a region of space where there was the most heavy resource development. The lizard territory. Our reporters asked the rebel council why it has taken so long for this story to surface. The council only responded with "This is not the story you are looking for."

Oh my god! Forger, even we are enemies I have to warn you because you have set your turn ready before the last Rebel news. DO NOT - under any circumstances - meet with the two Rushes that seem friendly. Read the last post - these are Triborg Rushes which would immidiatly infect your ships and take them over in no time. Stay away and better even do not communicate! Rumors are that one can get Triborg infection - aka Tribber - by unprotected radio transmisison.

Congrats to those in the trenches, let's see who makes it to 100 and in what shape. From the snippets of intel I get from the players and watching the scoreboard I can affirm Aries is shaping up to be a very rough game where mistakes of all kinds are mercilessly punished. Not to diminish the efforts of the Sagittarius supreme commanders.

fully agree. I am not playing this game anymore as i don't have the time to do thoroughful turns, but i loved to read the forum. Since the activity feature, this is just a big mess to me. Or it is that i am just too stupid to understand it. Anyways, i am completely lost and only read the old forum entries anymore where i get auto-noticed by mail.
Am writing this from the old forum.
I can't understand why the developers don't see the big mess the activity feature has created...

But back to Aries:
can someone update the community about the current alliances / battlezones?

Turn 72: An official complaint by the Privateer leader Jomiii led to an internal investigation in the ministry of ship building. It turned out that the man responsible for the letter A had stopped his regular work and made up a private business for second hand ships and recycled ship materials. Regarding the net gain of his business this man was promoted and redeployed to the ministry of economics. The pending building requests of clusters with first letter A will be processed by date of receipt now.

Preface by the author:
  • The following is 100% true. Please consider that the range of truth was changed recently to 0 - 125% (like tenacity).
  • I tried to add line breaks to compensate the current formatting problems of this discussion board.
Maybe I have to make some editing iterations to achieve good readability.
Uh, did it now. Doesn't look so good but is readable.

Supreme commander Emork's home at planet Gorn. The commander sits at the kitchen table and enjoys a snack of fried flies.
His face shows a big smile while he studies a confidential project report.
His son Slar enters quite excited and is surprised to find his Dad at home.
"Dad, I can't believe you're chewing flies here while the whole planets is talking about the ARMADA.
Why aren't you at the bridge of the flag ship?"
Emork looks up, thinks for a minute and then hands over the papers.
"Son, in a few years you should follow my footsteps so you are old enough for the truth about the ARMADA.
It's nothing but the last step of the most ambitious project our people started in the last 100 years."

LPP (Lizard Peace Project) in final stage

Project vision (turn 1):All these destroyed ships, all these dead crews, all the widows and parentless childs.
It seems this will go on forever but it shouldn't.
That's why the Lizard peace corps hired the best scientists for a long term project to find a solution.
After long research and countless simulations with an array of C64 super computers it came out
there is just one way to achieve this.
It is a fundamental law of the Nuniverse that ships of the same race can't fight each other.
So only if one race possesses all 500 ships the bloodletting will end forever.

Implementation stage 1 (turn 5-50):
First careful inimations to other races showed
that the idea of handing out all weapons currently isn't popular.
Especially the western super powers insisted that every free planet should own a battle ship for self defense.
So implementation stage 1 was a Lizard-only project. Each ship destroyed anywhere in the cluster
should be replaced by a small harmless Lizard ship.
As everyone knows the currency for ship building is PBP.
To generate the neccesary PBP the strategy of Merlin build control was fine-tuned and applied to an extent never seen before.
This was a risky and resource-hungry enterprise which needed to optimize every aspect of the Lizard economy.
It showed a result of 104 PBP.

It shouldn't kept secret that accidents happened.
Especially on Sunday - the traditional Lizard day to tidy up the ship - torpedos were launched by inattentive cleaning ladies.
It is to our greatest regret that one of hundered of these torpedos found a target - often Instrumentalities and Golems,
but also Rushes, Fireclouds, Resolutes, Loki, Swifthearts and unarmed freighters.
This resulted in 126 PBP - even more than the MBC strategy earned and probably more than any other race "scored".

In the end of stage 1 the Lizards owned about 1/3 of the ships of the cluster.
And we were able to convince the first of the other races to join the project.

Implementation stage 2 (turn 50-75):
It was clear from the beginning
that the LPP Project can't succeed with the other races participating.
So ambassadors were sent out to all people and started the work of persuading.
This was especially hard in the very west where the big Borg war was going on.
Not to speak of a most stubborn people in the north which didn't not even shrink back from executing our ambassador -
an act of such a barbarian nature that we nearly gave up hope for this region.
The main problem was that war was everywhere and no race could think about living without battle ships.
So we decided to use a more indirect strategy - first establish peace and than collect the weapons.

Final stage (turn 75+): Universal peace is nearly established. The big fighting in the west stopped.
No more shots are fired between Borg, Fed, Pirates, Rebels, Robots, Birds, Colonials and Crystals.
This convinced the leaders of these people that the Lizard plan does work.
We haven't recieved official diplomatic statements but the main fleets of various people are heading east now (see picture below).
They can't have another target than the Lizard scrapyards where we offered to transform battle ships into climate ships.
The future seems bright for the Aries cluster - chilling under warm suns instead of killing each other.

Project evaluation: The Lizard peace corps is proud to be short before achieving the project goal.
Uniting eight previous hostile races as soon as turn 75 is rarely seen.
Especially for a race with the Lizard's small battle power it's often difficult to be convincing.
Key was to prevent that hundreds of huge carriers dominate the scenary.
It is common ground that once the military has big toys it's hard to keep it from using them.

*** end of report ***

Slar moans in disbelive. "Dad, are you 100% sure this paper really depicts reality?
You know that project leaders tend to report near success until the last minute before all falls apart like a house of cards.
What if the ARMADA in fact has hostile intentions?"
"Son, believe me. In the last years we learned to know better the leaders of this cluster.
In many of them there is much believe in honour. They would not take part in an undignified fight of such unequal numbers."
" But, Dad, you teached me to always be prepared for the unexpected."
"Hmmm ... Slar, ... hmmmm. Maybe you are right. This makes me ashamed and proud at the same time.
Ok, let's send for cousin Emork, the Klingon King. He's the family expert in fighting monster fleets.
Unforgetable his battle in the Memphis Sector where numberless enemy carriers ...".
"Dad, time is running out, or?"
"Oh, yes, Slar. The story of the monster fleet I can tell you later."
Emork rushes out of the kitchen while Slar sits down for doing his homeworks.
Puh, another study about warm-blooded psychology. A very interesting but also most complex and often confusing matter.

What I caused and whom I heared yelling through open space from turn 1 to turn 75.
Use your browser function "show image" to make the list bigger and readable.
  • If a destroyed ship was traded I named the current owner.
  • If no destroyer is named then I don't know.
  • If no PBP are listed behind a destroyed ship then it was destroyed by a planet/base.
  • Sometimes I had to make an educated guess. I assume more than 95% of the list is correct.

I'm afraid that it's much easier to have and distribute an opinion than actually taking the time and going through the numbers properly. Also, as much as I find it deplorable, I'm afraid that fewer and fewer people take the time to go to these forums. The volatility of the "Activity" thread while consciously keeping the forums unlinked led to that.

As many have commented before:

If everyone played 'correctly' in a winner-takes-all championship game, the game would end in stalemate.

(Or at least until a critical race dropped and tipped the balance so one player could run away with it)

Aries looks far more balanced than the other 3 championship games.

Anyone want to bet this game lasts 250 turns?

Happy turn 100, inhabitants of the Aries cluster!

Thanks that most of you joined my fireworks! You can imagine that it was quite difficult to arrange all this to happen excactly in turn 100. Aries houses a lot of hostile conditions for little Lizards.

Turn 100 comes with a major change in Lizards politics. These will be published later. Now ...

Is it still everyone against Emork in Aries?
And what did Jobo do to get himself out of the focus?
Can anyone please update the curious spectators?

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
Greetings from the Aries cluster to the outer world!

It was 25 turns ago when the ARMADA formed to fight a fleet of Lizard Merlins. This meant that ED, leader of the Evil Empire and my brother in arms, and me were attacked by Rebels, Birds, Colonials, Borg, Feds, Robots and Pirates. Not all our enemies were immidiatly active at all fronts. Meanwhile 4 x mine laying, fighter mine sweeping and RGA are everywhere. In many locations also the Birds and the Pirates but they rarely show. The experienced Borg-Gorilla-queen concentrates on the center.
The first fleet of the ARMADA popped up at ED's western border and has hit him hard. A lot of nice bases were destroyed and a lot of free natives are now drones. Meanwhile the second ARMADA fleet of several Virgos, Rushes and Darkwings has formed in the south of ED. I was absolutly impressed how ED never showed the slightest sign of concern and fully concentrated on optimizing his defense. That's the way of the warrior!
At the Lizard front things went a bit better but that was mainly because the attackers were not as numerous as at ED's front. There was no significant gain on either side. Traps are prepaired every turn, 97% fizzle, 2% succed and 1% backfire. A most interesting war of attrition in which the Lizard economy managed to hold the fort against Robotic monster minefields, Colonial fighter sweeping and Fed Rushes. The later have 13 bays and probably send even a Lizard Gorbie to the scrapyard easily - if they have fighters to launch ;)

Combining the results on the EE and the Lizard front sees a slow but steady progress of the ARMADA. Carefully prepaired traps and brave rides pull out the one or other victory for our side but the combination of enemy abilities is not to stop in the long run. It is pleasure to face such a challenge and to succeed in significantly slowing down an invincible attack. Of course this could  only be achieved because the commanders in charge dedicate all availlable resources to this task. As said, fighting an ARMADA is honourable and enjoyable, but futile in the end. The Borg empire is growing and a 3:1 power output of a Borg base compared to a Lizard base can't be compensated by a tiny lead in planets. It doesn't look like anyone else worries and the ARMADA seems stable. So the Lizard command decided about efficiency measures.

* The Lizard command will enter eco mode now. This doesn't mean a change in Lizard strategy but spectators should take it into account when studying the turns 100+. The Lizard empire will continue to defend against any aggressor and every Lizard planet will come at a cost.
* The majority of people of the Aries cluster voted for being a happy collective. So it may be.

Now let's go on ... I'm curious if the Aries people will celebrate one or two x-mas together. :)

Hello audience,

remember to look up turns 105, 106 and 107 after the game. The last turns saw a the beginning of the run for the Rebel heritage. As the Rebel ships tend to fly without PE this has led to some funny and very interesting situations.

Examples for turn 106:
  • At one spot: Lizard LCC, Rebel Rush, Pirate Gorbie, Pirate Bio, 2 x Pirate MBR
Nearby: 4 Lizard Gorbies and a Loki within 10 LJ of the Pirate ships.
  • At one spot: Bird Resolute, Rebel Rush, EE Gorbie
Nearby: 4 EE Gorbies, 4 Colonial Virgos and a Colonial popper
Turn 107 saw a resolution of these diffucult sitations which resulted - at first glance - in small advantage for ED and me.

Because Azzazello asked for the explosions:
1 x FCC
2 x MBR (minehit)
1 x LCC (3 minehits)
1 x Falcon
1 x Tranquility
1 x SSF
2 x Gorbie
3 x Virgo

I hope my fellow ciitizens of Aries don't mind that I try to keep our spectators interested. We have some new competitors in the Capricorn War.

@pun  - looks like the 'coalition' (maybe never was really 8) is down to 4.

Lord Tennyson:

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death,
Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldiers knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death

Rode the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
  Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
  Rode the six hundred.

Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder'd.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Bean:
The gate is down.

Bluejay, I liked poem about the Light Brigade very much.

People asked for news from the Aries cluster. Here is some. You have to visit the old forum (with pictures! in colour!) to fully enjoy it.

http://planets.nu/discussion/the-aries-war-1

The Lizard headquarter is very satisfied with the current expansion rate. Nevertheless there are quite a few zones of heavy conflict. The fleet multiplying effect of Fireclouds gets bigger as distances also do.

The three hottest battlegounds are:
* Crystal homelands: There is a slow but steady revival of the Crystal empire which cooperates with the Lizards to reconquer land from the Borg.
* Bird homelands: Birds and Colonies hold the fort against the Evil Empire assisted by Lizard troops. A skillfull fought battle with many warp well hunts and ships running out of fuel intentionally. A big combat a few turns ago ended with the destruction of 2 Gorbies, 3 Virgos, 1 Darkwing and numerous mid class ships. The defenders use all means - a SSD even fell to an ancient glory device recently.
* Lizard homelands: Within three turns distance of the Lizard homeworld we can see an impressive ship parade (see below). A defensive webs slows down the approach of this ARMADA a little bit but the inhabitants of Gorn are prepared to move underearth in short time.

12 ships (at least) within 15 ly of Bird HW.   Includes 2 Gorbies and a SSD,  but less one SSF.

We're busy shredding the files and building mk1 torps.    The natives aren't too happy.

So looks like the Armada takes your Homecluster while you take the Planets of the Armada (with SSD?). Happy merry go round for the next 100 turns.

Great job from Eustache Dauger to defend against both Colonies and Bird. It's all about Emork in this thread it seems and noone ever mentiones the EE or the Crystals who also fight against the Borg and allies.

Maybe it's because they never wrote their perspective?

It's a bit sad that this is reduced to a one man entertainer here. Nothing heared from the big guys Jobo and Tristan Mo.

So Emork if you will be kicked by the Fireclouds logistics in the end, you'll at least have a chance to get to crowd favourite - but only if you keep your mouth shut in the forums from now on about every topic that involves PBP ;)

Some evidence that there is no easy going in the Aries cluster.

A Fed Bio won against m7-Rex, Gorbie, m4-Rex (all with 150% damage bonus and the Gorbie from the left side!).

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply
The Lizard HQ firmly rejects the suspicion that it gave order or even allowance for victory celebrations. Quite the contrary: Because of the many misleading  voices from outside and even inside this cluster about a soon and easy Lizard victory an information campaign was launched to prepare all soldiers that nothing is decided and this war could easily see turn 300.
Addionally the HQ comdemns all rumours that the mentioned information campaign showed little result and the HQ decided about a stronger measure for awareness-raising which may even include calculated ship losses.

The lizard captains died bravely and will be remembered for their valiant effort!

Through our spy network, we were able to obtain internal camera pictures taken a moments before their final battle - let us all give them a moment of silence in the memory.

m7-T-Rex

m4-T-Rex

and last but not least our valiant Gorbie captain

May we all remember these brave faces!

What people might overlook is that this Gorbie captain shows a unique Lizard ability that is the reason for their 150% damage bonus: giving commands to the fighter/torpedo crews while closely observing the hull integrity status.

RE: The Aries WarWrite Reply

Aries War Birdman Summary.

If I recall correctly:

First 10 turns

- figured I had to do something unusual out of the gate,  so built 8 Resolutes with Warp7 engines.

- Next time I'll use better beams even if it costs a ship.  Low minerals might kill this idea altogether.

- told EE where my HW was.  Turned out he was just to my north.

- moved aggressively in one direction, found Fascists, I leaned on him a bit.  He dropped.  I think Borg took his LDSF in the SE corner was the clincher.   Maybe Jobo remembers the timing.

Turns 10-30

- worked with Rebels to build SB's in front of the queue.

- traded a DW and Res to Tristan for a Virgo

- noticed wars Robot-Liz+EE,  Borg-Colonies,   Borg-Crystal,  Fed-Priv,  Reb-Fed.

- All good news for me: Everyone else is busy, I got some Carriers coming,  I got lots of SB getting built, a potentially bad neighbor dropped.

Turns 30-60

- early Resolutes are traded away or heading deep in anticipation of the second wave of Cloakers that can sweep.

- helped stop Borg.  Then flipped and started working with Borg.

- happily building Starbases,  wheeee

- cleaned up Fascist ships with a xray*gamma bomb DW.  Netted 2*d19b, 2*D7.

- very few builds

Turns 60-100

- Start working with Borg, but a little confused about status of Borg-Colonies war, and I friendly to both.

- Gave a border starbase to Borg.  The intention was to have insurance against Tristan since Tristan was sweeping Robots mines for Liz. Emork kills a Cobol which gave me the final answer.

- Tristan responds to my SOS and starts sweeping mines for me.   We own the battlefield for a while,  but I got no firepower to make the most of it.

- I'm paralyzed with indecision

Turn 100-110

- Unfortunately Rebel dropped at turn 103.  Sev has his priorities in the correct order. Hopefully we can play together again. I did enjoy getting&sending multiple messages each turn.

-Turn 106 lost DW+Virgo to a Gorbie.   Virgo from the left side lost to a 30% damaged Gorbie.

- summary of my Rebel starbases and Tristan trades:4 starbases in front of the queue+DW+Resolute gave me 3 Rushes, a falcon, a Tranquility, a Virgo, a cobol which  together with a DW ended up killing 1 Gorbie(Rebel got the PBPs), one LCC, ill wind, and the fascist HW.

- I fall under Tristan's protection.   Give him a SB in my core cluster. Tristan could have crushed me at any time, but didn't.

- d19b's keeping EE+Liz fleets from attacking?

Turn 131  - I'm in Miami International airport and briefly get wifi on my phone.   A message from Tristan saying "that couldn't have gone any better"

I'm supposed to be focusing on a presentation but I keep wandering back Aries.

Turn 139 - EE offers to betray Lizard, but I have to let him escape - into my area - from a big ion storm.

I don't want to ruin this potential game changing move so I agree.

Turn 145+ - EE actions differ from betrayal behavior but I can do little to stop him.   Eustache, I have no hard feelings.

Turn 152 - a second big mistake.   Maybe 50 turns previously Tristan towed a SSD that had zero fighters.

So I used PBP to build a 2xay, 8 gamma bomb DW.  It towed a second SSD, but lost to the dozens of fighters he had.

Turn 153 - a third big mistake.   A DW has surrendered at a Crystal SB.

It’s a danger for Birds,  but I've only done it one other game.   After this I hardly spent any time on my turns.  Just staying alive vs Eustache's Gorbies.

So, there it is.  The game was over before these f-ups, but I still feel crappy about those 3 mistakes at the end of the game.

Realistically,  the best I could hope for in a Champ game is to finish second or third by finding a friend.

If Fascist didn't drop I would have been in big trouble, maybe the first race killed.

McKone laying webs to cover Emork's back door was the deciding factor.  We might have pulled off a comeback if it wasn't for the webs.

Emork, Tristan, and Jobo are elite players.  It was an honor to play with them.

Other comments:

Re EAQC aka MBC

Not for me since it seems like work, not play.   Maybe I'll build a Merlin once or twice if I can't build something useful.   Congratulations to Emork for pulling it off.

re tenacity: I happened to be high on the tenacity ratings when this game started. I've only played for a couple years and thought this was how the game should be played (never drop).

Possibly Fascist and EE saw it and gave me elbow room.  It's working against me now because there's no droppers anymore (joking).  As Birds I liked the easy victims.

To future Champ game invitees: if you're the type of player who makes too many stupid mistakes, then don't play.   Go practice some more.

To other Birdmen players:   I don't know if you'll learn anything from reviewing my turns.  Maybe you'll pick up some bad habits so be careful.

I certainly made a pile of mistakes.   If you have a question post it starting with "Birdman question" and I'll give you my 2cents (along with Bacchus, Othrym, MJS, and a few others.  Or send me a message and I'll try to answer the best I can.

I'm right about half the time:)    Don't put xray on anything infiltrating.   Don't put xray on Swift Hearts, unless it’s a money transport.

To Joshua: thanks for the opportunity.   Eventually the ranking will mature.  The cream will rise to the top for all races and middle of the road players like myself won't get so high on the leaderboard.

To Othrym:    Avenge Me !!!!
