Is there any way to use VGAP utilities in conjunction with one's game here? Years ago I found Echoview a big help.

At the moment no, however you are welcomed to use the "feedback" link to propose a especific echoview feature that you would like implemented.

We have a few already, but there is still some to go ;)

Is there a Battle Sim utility? It would be nice to simulate several ships vs several others to see a typical outcome.

There is a one on one battle sim.  On the dashboard, click on VCRs.  Then you wil find a "battle Sim" button in the upper right.  You can do this even if you have 0 VCRs in the current turn.

I remember a few other utilities back in the old days too...like a planet economic calculator.  There was a tool to calculate the resources required to build ships ahead of time, before you actually built it, without doing the math by hand.  I can't remember the names of the progs though.  Anyone know if these are still available / applicable / etc.?  Thanks.

They are applicable.... if you play the right version of VGA Planets.

Battle simulators and ship list calculators for Tim-Host can currently be used for Nu, as long as they use the same default ship list. For example, PlayVCR from PCC2 would be a nice battle simulator. Tim-Host combat comes close to Nu combat. The next version of PlayVCR will also include a specific Nu mode, where it simulates exactly the same way as the Nu client.

It is also technically possible to import Nu game data into PCC2 or EchoView. This site just does not offer that feature.

Thanks Thin Lizy never found this little gem before, I particularly like the

Just for the record: the version of PlayVCR with "Nu" mode has now been available for a few weeks (1.99.16, http://phost.de/~stefan/pcc2.html). I have now also added a Perl program to download VCRs from Nu games into PlayVCR (http://phost.de/~stefan/bits.html#c2nuvcr).
