100 more planets by Matt![]() Wednesday, August 17, 2011 We'd like to send out a big thank you to Matthias Kuehl (aka Madinson) who has created another set of 100 planet images to complement the 100 he's already made. He says he on a mission to produce a complete set of 500. For now, the new set is mixed in with the old set so that all your even numbered planets will get a new image based on their temperature. You will now see the new planet pictures in game, some of them have moons, rings, different atmospheres etc. Its an incredible collection and took a lot of work to produce. Thanks again Matthias! Can i build structures on the moons or mine the rings? Just kidding, i like the images, nice work. bondservant - Thursday, August 18, 2011 2:11 PM Very nice. As I perused my desert planets in a fit of joy, I thought my favorite was the orange swirl, then I decided I liked best the cool interplay with the barren planet that had a touch of green, highlighted by the green moon. daniel payne - Thursday, August 18, 2011 6:19 PM Thanks. The image is the first thing to attract the eye of new players and casual onlookers. It is important to have a convincing pictures. These look really good. I wonder if there will ever be a way to have the picture indicate details about the planet. solkar - Thursday, August 18, 2011 8:30 PM Maybe is just my impression, but new planets do not reflect their temperature as before,... Even planet with temperature 82 seems cold ice in my opinion,... madinson - Thursday, August 18, 2011 8:53 PM We gonna optimize that. If we have 500, we can set the range from 1-500, a bit like temperature - not every cold planet would be blue, but it will be fantastic. Please write about your wishes here ..... daniel payne - Thursday, August 18, 2011 9:10 PM Well, since you asked, I have always felt that the game would be improved if there was more of a visual element to it. That was never possible in the past, but now, the images are of such a quality that they could be larger, and become the focus of the planet screen. The functional, but plain GUI that Tim used was a direct port from his DOS version of the game, which looked great for the time. But you guys have far better graphic tools at your disposal. It would be a shame to let this outdated interface persist when you have the chance to make it so much better. The planet image should be much larger, front and center, with your attention drawn to it. The information readout for temp, natives, government, colony info, happy points, etc. could be labels for the planet rather than some dreary statistics in character cells. That would greatly improve gameplay. capnkill - Thursday, August 18, 2011 10:02 PM Excellent work! jessilaurn - Friday, August 19, 2011 3:15 PM Sweet gods, I'm happy to see the continue contributions to this wonderful old game of ours. :) nitemare - Saturday, August 20, 2011 10:47 AM I have a planet with 0 degrees and the image of a red planet almost identical to the crystal's home world. It's a bit confusing. baer - Monday, August 22, 2011 11:08 PM Really a valuable contribution. Very well done. nastypasty - Wednesday, August 24, 2011 11:17 PM Great work dude.
