We know that the players who take the time to help teach new players in our Mentor vs. Midshipmen games are invaluable to the community. The beginners who play in these games are most likely to stay with Planets Nu for a long time, thanks to the expert guidance of our mentors. We are now announcing a new incentive to reward and encourage players to act as mentors, by offering them the chance to get some free premium time.
How can I help and earn some free premium?
- Sign up as a mentor by going to the New Games List, selecting the Mentor vs Midshipmen game at the top of the list and join in slot 1, the mentor's position.
* Be sure you have the time to commit to teaching the new players and answering their questions. Simply playing the game is not as helpful to the new players and is unlikely to get you any free premium. *
- When a mentee goes to activate their first subscription, they will be offered the option to reward one of their mentors who they feel really helped them get into Planets (this mentor can be from an ongoing or finished game). This mentor will receive a 20% premium time bonus, similar to the account referral bonus. For example, a player signing up for a 1-year renewing membership can gift their mentor over 2 months of free premium play!
That's it! Volunteer to mentor and do a good job, and you can benefit! Once we have awarded some bonuses we will start a mentor leaderboard, similar to the one for recruiters.
The fine print:
- The option to reward a mentor is only available to players that have never made a purchase with us before.
- They can only select one mentor to reward so do your best to be friendly and helpful! You want them to choose you!
- The mentee does not receive any bonus for rewarding a mentor. We want to make sure their only reason for doing so is they had a good mentor, not because they get something out of it.
- Mentor rewards are currently only available to players signing up for auto-renewing subscriptions. We may add it to PayPal purchases in the future, but currently PayPal is not seeing much usage.
