Horwasp Alpha Update!

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

The Horwasp got a significant update today. Mostly giving them a little more flexibility and options.

The following changes have been made:

  • Update: Horwasp enemy planet scans include native population count.
  • Update: Horwasp scatter give scans of each planet.
  • Update: Soldier limit raised to Floor(PlanetSqrt) * 2.
  • Removed: Defense
  • New: Burrowing - Improves defense and adds fighter defense, protects against climate, reduces eating requirements. (resting workers in burrows do not eat)
  • New: All non-combatants (now called low energy profile) don't hit mines or webmines and have low discovery range.
  • Update: Lower cost for Hives.
  • New: Infections beam information back about enemy ships to all horwasp who scan them.
  • New: Proto mines don't destroy proto mines.
  • Bug fix: Web hit explosion location
  • Bug fix: Scatter horwasp when destroyed by webs
  • Bug fix: Accellerators accross the sphere edge can now be targetted properly

The biggest change is the removal of defending and the addition of burrowing. Burrowing was one of the original prototype designs but we opted for the simpler defense approach but in practice it is not as interesting as Burrowing.

Horwasp can choose to allocate workers to create burrows under ground. This protects them from orbital bombardment (increases combat mass) and especially from weak fighter fire. It also protects them from climate and reduces their resting food requirements. An economic benefit over time. It also gives you something to do with all your "resting" workers.

Also of note is the change to extend the no-mine hits and 25ly scan range from rocks to all non-combatant (low energy profile) pods. These pods are on passive kinetic approaches only and don't use any active scanners making them very difficult to detect. They do not trigger minefields.

These changes take effect immediately! Be careful if you're fighting the Horwasp!
