We have added some options for automatically setting native tax rates based on some common taxing methods. You should see these available on the native tax screen. For this initial release, four preset taxing methods are available:
- Growth - When full happiness benefit can be gained from taxing 0%, do so (ie. if not taxing gains +5 happiness, don't tax when happiness is 95 or less). Otherwise, set tax rate to gain as much income as possible, or down to 70 happiness. If max population reached, tax down to 70 happiness and hold there. Growth taxing is a classic Planets strategy, that can yield higher planetary income over. It is most effective on planets with high growth potential (good climate), and lots of colonist clans to collect the high amount of megacredits generated on the taxing turns.
- Growth+ - Similar to Growth taxing, but with 2 differences. Taxing is possible down to a happiness level below 70 (ie. if not taxing gains +5 happiness, it can tax down to 65). And when the maximum population is reached it will tax down to 40 happiness.
- Flat 70 - Tax down to 70 happiness and hold there.
- Flat 40 - Tax down to 40 happiness and hold there.
Note that while these values are generally computed in the client (so the tax rates you see are what will be used), they are also calculated host-side as well. This means that even if turns are missed, planets with auto-taxing will still have their tax rates adjusted.
We will likely add more more features to this in the future: expanding the options to colonist taxing as well, and adding additional minor tweaks or custom settings to increase revenue. But we feel like the current options cover the vast majority of taxing scenarios. We hope you find it useful, and welcome any feedback!
