Over the past few months the Planets Nu team has been busy designing and building several core aspects of our future plans. Today, the first part of this new direction was released. The Horwasp Plague, an exciting new race, have arrived in the Echo Cluster. Learn more about the new race here: http://planets.nu/#/post/a-plague-upon-our-galaxy
Over the past 6 years Planets Nu has worked continuously to improve the quality and accessibility of VGA Planets. Our primary goal has always been expanding the community and engaging new users while entertaining and delighting our existing players with new content. With that goal in mind we have updated our strategic roadmap to redirect our resources down a new road.
We are excited to announce our new primary goal is to build build a beautiful, cinematic 3D user interface for the game.
The cinematic trailer created for the Horwasp release (see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJnaJvlMTO0) was created from an early build of our future VCR player.
The new user interface will create an immersive experience for players to truly enter the Echo Cluster. It will feature 3D models for all ships in the game, character models for the 12 races and amazing cinematic combat recordings. In addition an animated, rich 3D map where you can truly explore your sectors, systems and planets.
In addition, our goal is to develop and release a new, in depth, single player story that can be played through with several races. The Horwasp will be the primary antagonist in this story.
We are already 6 months into development on the new user interface and early results look amazing. We hope to be able to begin demonstrations of the new UI by fall 2016. This will bring a completely new level to the Planets experience. One that we hope will engage and excite a new generation of players.
As always we welcome community feedback on our plans and the future. Also, if you have experience developing 3D models and are interested to participate in the project we welcome you to contact us!
