Here is the complete interview as seen in the Planets Newsletter - Enjoy!

PN: Tell us a little about yourself.

W:  Age 45, married , 3 kids, working as a remote engineer.

PN: When did you first start playing?

W:
When I was young I went to a football game with 2 guys who played VGA. They spoke the whole tour about VGA and explained me the races...I can remember the one guy praising the Lizards...They come with their huge ships ,unload their mighty troops  and take over planets easily.

PN: What's your favorite race and why?

W:
I have two races in this game which fit to me...the Crystal People with their shiny webs..and the Birdmen with their advanced cloaking... Why..when you play them right you decide where and how to fight.

PN: What do you build on first three turns with them (or your general opening strategy)?

W:
The Crystal need infrastructure so I build freighters and Opals as scout and Homeguard ...I hate these small jumping ships and whenever you have been visited by a Rebel in an early game you will understand how horrorful this is.

The Birdmen need Scouts and such what I build 1 LDSF and Resolutes or Swifts...whatever can be built.

PN: How many games do you play at the same time?

W:
I think the hardest have been 8 or 9 and this was mad...Your quality suffers strongly. I tend to play 3 max 4 the same time.

PN: What types of games do you like playing most?

W: All!  ...The wide variety is great and demands you to adjust your strategy and tactics again and again.

PN: What's your most memorable game, and what made it so interesting?

W:  A lot games I have played so far...but I think my first one on planets.nu is which brought me directly back to VGA / ID: 68309

It was a melee game and I did not understand what this mean as I joined it as a Crystal player...I felt the satisfaction as I caught a lot of Bird Darkwings in my webs and took them, then I was forced to defend against an allied invasion, my own ally left the game and I was forced to fight his opponents too and to made the madness complete I thought it would be a good idea to fight on a third side a Privateer...So I learned on the hard way that VGA is a diplomatic game and all my mistakes which I made after this long time convinced me that I can do better and since then I try it game on game...

PN: Name a memorable friend and/or a memorable foe, and what made them stand out.

W: Thin Lizzy, who was so fixed on a win that he forgot the fun in the game.

Emork who punishs every failure...

DarthBall whith his enthusiasm

Iso T with his Loyality

the "mad" Ted

Frostriese who discusses good and bad moves wiht you in a fantastic manner...

and so many other I can not name here ...

PN: Give an example of excellent tactics you've used or seen (w/ details so readers can view it, if possible).

W: Ted as a Borg built a Stargate in a nebula. A stargate allows firecloud in the surrounding area to chunnel while moving...I did not know that and was surprised as my unprepared fleet was visited by a firecloud and forced to a rendezvous with an enemy fleet.

PN: What do you think is the most important skill for a Planets player to succeed?

W:
Charisma to find an ally. A golden tongue to bring your neighbour to attack another neighbour. and the instinct how other player can be influenced in the right way...

So I think diplomacy is the winner. You can be a god in this game. When you fight it out alone you are lost.

PN: Describe the process you use to make a turn.

W: Check VCR, have a look on the map, read the messages...and check what is interesting on the map...than store it and think about...when sitting and have nothing to do your mind is working and then the good ideas are coming...

then make the move you have imagined, coordinate with your allies, in demanding games...recheck, rethink..and so on...and when you are convinced you made the best out of this turn press the end of the turn button and rethink again.

PN: What is your favorite thing about Panets Nu?

W:
We are in different countries, we have difference pasts , we have different educations but we are united in the love to this game. This shows in the way we discuss, the way we help and the way we learn and that is something I enjoy very much.

PN: Is there anything else you would like to add?

W:
Thanks to Tim and Joshua and Big Beefer.
