The Gemini War - the 7th Championship Match

Friday, May 15, 2015
The seventh Championship match has begun.

The 11 races have once again named an elite military commander to lead their forces to win total control and power on behalf of their race and individually to claim the ultimate seat of power and ascend to the throne as the Almighty Commander of the 11 races, his Excellency, The Emperor of the Echo Cluster.

Please welcome the proud commanders participating in The Gemini War!

The following champions have been named by each race to represent them in The Gemini War:

The Solar Federation name:  Fleet Admiral Zavulon

Seeming to favour the chaos and conflict of Giant Melee style battle, Zavulon has scooped up several wins by being able to survive the competition. He has also commanded a few different races so there shouldn't be too many surprises regarding the basic abilities of his foes. Zavalon was once quoted saying,  "The harder you work the luckier you get." In this battle, we shall see how much luck he can create.

The Lizard Alliance name:  Fleet Admiral Redwolfe

With a track record of nearly all top 4 finishes and a solid foundation leading a variety of fleet types, Fleet Admiral Redwolfe might be able to take all he's learned and produce a winning strategy. He has experience working in teams which has at times was to his advantage, but also meant that more often an ally took top spot. Perhaps he can find a way to end up on top, with or without the help of his neighbour.

The Empire of the Birds name:  Commodore Ciocco

It turns out that Commodore Ciocco did indeed "know thy enemy" during his last campaign, unfortunately, it seems a little too well. The Capricorn War lingers on, but this commander gets a fresh start and a chance at redemption.

The Fascist Empire name:   Fleet Admiral Siggi

With over 17 campaigns battling as the commander of the Fascist fleet, Siggi is well prepared to meet the challenges this championship might create. As a DIE HARD veteran, no one can doubt the loyalty to his crew, fervor for battle and his capacity to stick around, even when the going gets tough. Perhaps his secret is lies with a particular quirk he has been rumored to have, you may see him occasionally command in the nude.

The Privateer Bands name:   Fleet Admiral Ra

A more apt name might be "Specialist Ra" who has devoted nearly all his time commanding the Privateers. He has also proven his staying power and commitment to survive long battles regardless of the outcome, he's not quitting. If you find Fleet Admiral Ra nearby on the map, you can be sure he's going to be stealing your ships from turn 1-Finished.

The Cyborg name:   Fleet Admiral Darth Balls

From the looks of this commander's history, you've got an average of less than 100 turns before you're assimilated, or in his own words "unless you have nothing to offer and then you will simply be blown to bits of space dust." His name might cause a chuckle or two between other ships captains, but beware, he has a very serious history of first place finishes.

The Crystal Confederation name:   Fleet Admiral Crystalct

Soon people will think it's just the natural order of things for Fleet Admiral Crystalct to take top spot.  He has all top 3 finishes in all his battles as the Crystal Confederation and shows a lot of promise to make an impact during this fray. A closer look at his records reveal rather high military scores...one might draw the conclusion that not only is he laying web mines, he's catching things in them.

The Evil Empire name:   Admiral Landgrab

If you're looking for an ally, you may want to consider Admiral Landgrab. Known to be peaceful unless provoked, he also once declared, "I never break an agreement, no matter the personal cost". He has spent a lot of time maneuvering through the muddy waters of melee combat and seems to have survived with both a homeworld and his integrity. We'll see if the inevitable cost to rule the Nuniverse is something he can live with.

The Robotic Imperium name:  Supreme Commander Loner

Someone in a galaxy far away once said "Don't tell me the odds!" - Supreme Commander Loner might be willing to bet on himself though considering the vast accumulation of experience he has collected by commanding nearly every race to at least one top 4 finish. While his moniker suggests his independence, you may find a good ally in him as most of his triumphs were shared.

The Rebel Confederation name: Rear-Admiral Ronnle Robot

Years ago, Rear-Admiral Ronnle Robot stared out into space, knowing he had been beaten into a corner made up of just 4 planets. Now he returns with the spirit of The Force re-kindling his will to win. In fact, with the Rebels he has yet to know defeat...many will watch in anticipation to see if this new momentum is enough to fight off a new set of enemies.

The Missing Colonies of Man name: Fleet Admiral Forger

It seems that Fleet Admiral Forger has walked out of the ashes of his Aries War defeat. Instead of meekly disappearing he has taken the rough edges of his vast experience and "forged" a new and shiny fleet to work his will. Here lies no better opportunity to make the throne his own this time, you can be sure vindication is on this commander's mind.

A Unique Sector with Unique Properties

The Gemini war is taking place in the Odionia sector. A unique sector near the heart of the Echo Cluster. Unlike other historic battle locations this sector is spherical in nature (Sphere is active). Based on reports from the outside it appears that the initial colonies of the above commanders have been randomly distributed around the sector. Diplomacy will be paramount with each participant having at least 4 neighbors.

It will be Fight or Fail for these leaders who must capture at least one new planet every 8 turns or face elimination.

No matter the twin, yang or yin, some will lose and one will win!

Against the odds, these commanders have dominated the Echo Cluster many times over. Between them they have an incredible 59 sector victories, more than any previous championship match! Now they find themselves shoulder to shoulder with each other.  Who will push themselves to new heights, and who will crumble under the pressure? Which one will become Emperor of the Echo Cluster? As always, only the coming Nu Years will decide.

Representing your race and its future place in history is not without risk. All 10 losing commanders will be stripped of all their achievements and will have to start again at the bottom of their race. The winner will be elevated to the title Emperor and will be remembered for all time as a hero among their people.

In addition to glory in the Echo Cluster, the following prizes will be awarded by the overseers of the Nuniverse:

Winner of the Gemini War - The Emperor will receive a free lifetime premium membership to Planets Nu.

Survival - Any player who controls at least 1 planet at the end of the game will receive 3 months of premium membership.

Spirit - The non-winning player with the best overall gamesmanship, diplomatic flourish, and game spirit as voted on by the other players will receive 3 months of premium membership

Crowd Favorite - The non-winning player who through his outside of the game communications entertains the crowd as chosen by the non-playing Planets Nu community will receive 3 months of premium membership

Good luck to all commanders! We will post regular updates as the game progresses, be sure to cheer on the representative of your favorite race!
