The 155 turn Scorpius War, a battle for complete control of the Echo Cluster which began in Year 0010 has finally ended. Spacesquad of the Crystal Confederation has strangled his opponents.
On this day, on the 27th year of the Nu calendar, the Imperial Senate of the Echo Cluster, and the gracefully retiring Emperor DungeonMaster recognizes Spacesquad of the Crystal Confederation as the Almighty Commander of the 11 races, 2nd in the line of unified leaders, hereafter known as the Emperor of the Echo Cluster!
Emperor DungeonMaster has graced us with his wisdom and vision one last time with these words to the incoming Emperor:
To the new emperor I wish you a long and prosperous reign, it is your time.
Even though my rule was measured in a few months, and my battle considerably
shorter in duration, I remain weary and my thoughts turn again to the beginning.
I find myself once again as my moniker, sitting in front of eager players, as a dungeonmaster,
with fantasy life and limb hinging on rolling dice, in the quest for glory.
In many ways, my station as the first emperor was the easy task. I was necessarily offered the
opportunity to explain the underlying mechanics and mathematics of the game to an audience
who knew only intuitively the value of ship slots and the all important positioning.
As we well know and realize, the championships are growing tighter and more delicate, the play
level is rising and the example of our victories brings much to the clear.
To you falls the difficult burden of advice with the more complex questions of nearly even odds.
The deep questions of detailed strategy are now yours to answer, use your time well. In many ways,
the championships are not dissimilar to the hero's quest.
"Down underground, nothing ran straight. All the tunnels curved, split, rejoined, branched, interlaced,
and traced elaborate routes that ended where they began, for there was no beginning, and no end.
One could go, and go, and go, and still get nowhere, for there was nowhere to get to. There was no
center, no heart of the maze. Once the door was locked, there was no end to it. No direction was
right."
- Ursula K.Le Guin The Tombs of Atuan.
DM
Thank you Emperor DungeonMaster. Your reign was short, but as the first ever Emperor of the Echo Cluster your name will never be forgotten. May you rise again.
All Hail Emperor Spacesquad!
During the long running Scorpius War Emperor Spacesquad played an epic diplomatic war. Playing neighbor against neighbor all the while taking small bites from those around him and eventually turning the honorable Mesh_Hong of the Privateers into a harmless sidekick. Thin Lizzy of the Lizard Alliance made a powerful early bid for supremacy and valiantly rallied the races into a late game alliance. However there was no stopping the slow and steady expansion of Spacesquad's empire. Slowly gaining planet after planet he rarely gave one up even in the face of a powerful multi-enemy alliance. If there ever was a demonstration of the power of the Crystalline web mines this was it. Crystalline commanders will review this historic war for generations.
Year 0027 will officially be known as the 1st Year of the Reign of Spacesquad.
To honor the occasion, The Imperial Senate has once again asked the Emperor to commission a new Ship Hull Design to use as his command ship. Once designed by Emperor Spacesquad the new Crystalline ship will be named by the Senate and become available to be researched for Campaign battles by all future Crystal commanders.
