Leaderboard cleanup and tuning![]() Sunday, April 17, 2011 We have just completed a tune-up and cleaning on the leaderboard. There were a number of small bugs which were causing some leaderboard scores to be misreported and we felt after 3 months that there were a few changes needed to make it easier to understand and aim for. A couple of the changes are significant. For those of you who want the full details they have been updated in the documentation: Leaderboard The HighlightsThere were several significant changes made to the way calculations are made:
Everyone's rating has been adjusted (everyone just got a small or large increase) and the leaderboard is now very accurate again. You are in control of your rating. If you want it to go up go out and make war! Keep up the work guys! admiral_thrain - Sunday, April 17, 2011 9:47 AM Getting points from tow capture may lead to misuse of the system. Orion or Tholian may tow capture a ship and then give it back and then tow capture it again... rince and repeat. Not a big fan of orion/tholian being able to get points from tow capture. rudel - Sunday, April 17, 2011 1:23 PM On the other hand, I haven't destroyed next to anything in my Privateer game because I tend to steal everything they have and use it against their planets. So being a Privateer gives us a disadvantage (besides the military score disadvantage compared to i.e. the fighter races). Furthermore, it's just the leaderboard. I don't think it's that important. Just a nice feature. I am trying to win my games regardless of my leaderboard position (that's why I don't do practice stuff and stay Ensign instead of becoming Leutnant by doint 20 Surround Missions). So much effort just to get some "sunken tons" stat. Na.. way too much work. dralmar - Sunday, April 17, 2011 6:21 PM I think the changes are good. However, I still think repeated training games should not continue to give experience. You should have to play live to get experience after completing the training games.
You should get exp for your first run at training games for each race, after that, you must play live to gain exp. You can still gain personal experience from training (just by trying different strategies and learning more), but not Leaderboard experience points. lutwidge - Sunday, April 17, 2011 8:45 PM I'm not sure why it matters if the Privs or Crystals get points or not from tow capture, since they only compete against themselves on the leaderboard. Thus, if the scoring now favors tow capturing in a way that could be exploited by some sort of tedious exchanges between allied races, it sounds like a questionable idea to me. leo van nierop - Sunday, April 17, 2011 9:05 PM not sure if the destruction points from capture work correctly. I just stole 2 ships by rob&tow in the Kzin system, but I didn't get destruction points for it. They belonged to a dead race, not sure if that matters... cheers, Leo d-wreck - Sunday, April 17, 2011 11:37 PM Fantastic, But I still don't see why destruction points are not awarded when a planet kills an enemy. Or PP points for that matter. You killed the ship irregardless, you should get the credit. kedalion - Monday, April 18, 2011 2:21 PM Are those changes in the score retroactively applied back in history or are they just changed for future actions? dungeonmaster - Monday, April 18, 2011 3:58 PM Not to gripe but I still don't understand how say Marvelin, or myself are ranked 20+ in borg and say Obscure or Oxstern (no offence intended) are in the top 10. I have more ships, planets and starbases, KT sunk than both of them combined. They only have more turns played, which should factor but if you're not winning, you're not a leader. Something just doesn't add up. nakor - Monday, April 18, 2011 4:01 PM Hmm, I still don't understand why certain players are listed above or below me in the Leaderboard. I ask myself "what do I have to do in order to overtake the guy above me?". I cannot find the answer by just looking at the Leaderboard. That could be improved imo, i.e. become more intuitive. nakor - Monday, April 18, 2011 4:03 PM Oh, and I agree with dungeonmaster. joshua - Monday, April 18, 2011 4:07 PM You are right we could put some documentation to make that more clear. Good suggestion. The leaderboard is order by Rank. (Commander, Lieutenant, Sub-Lieutenant, Ensign etc..) So you must achieve the requirements of the rank in order to get promoted (both the achievement and experience). Dungeonmaster, right now you are a like a very young officer who has had tons of success but simply doesn't have enough experience yet to get promoted. Players with the same rank are then ordered by achievement. Part of the new change we made was to speed up the earning of experience so that it runs more closely inline with achievement earned. dungeonmaster - Monday, April 18, 2011 4:23 PM Ok I get it now, that's great, hopeful to get more XP shortly. Is there eventually to be games exclusive to players within a certain leaderboard rank? kedalion - Monday, April 18, 2011 4:26 PM There are already. The inner quadrants on the starmap should only have games for players with higher rank. Currently, there is one game for Lieutenant-Commander and above and one for Lieutenant and above. But they aren't filling up yet.
